Ok,let me resume :

After the cowards attakcs in Paris,France invoked EU's article 42.7,which means all EU members have to help MILITARLY a member after that it has been attacked.

@flamer84 @Atanz @mike2000 is back @Abingdonboy @waz @bobo6661

So far ;

UK : Sent a destroyer that joined the French battlegroup.
Belgium : Sent a frigate (50% of their fleet....) that joined our battlegroup.
Luxembourg : Sends a second soldier to Mali, just for training......
Germany : Sends some Tornado for reconnaissance missions,a tanker and 1.200 troops..... + ~680 troops in Mali to replace the Dutch soldiers... (Peacekeeping mission....)

Wooa.

Why didn't we invoke NATO's article 5 instead,at least the US would have provided the help needed. :agree:

Luxembourg is to send a second soldier to Mali to help in the fight against the Islamic State, in response to an appeal for solidarity from France.

According to AFP, the Grand Duchy will send an additional soldier to working on the EU training mission in Mali in early 2016.

The individual will advise the Malian armed forces. Luxembourg also offers strategic transport capabilities managed by NATO as well as contributing financially to the Malian army's fight against extremism.

The country has also pledged 2 million euros to the Malian military to help in the fight against extremism. These funds will be used for training and equipment, medical materials and to support projects that work to prevent the radicalisation of children and their recruitment as soldiers.

Following the deadly attacks in Paris on November 13, France called took advantage of a clause in the Lisbon treaty, which says the victim of an attack can call for assistance from other countries.

The solo-soldier must've gotten lonely and requested someone else to come.

You should be happy. They only have three, and they sent two! One more and they would have deployed their whole army! :omghaha:

During the French-led operation in Mali, the African countries (Even if they do not have billions of military budget...) provided more direct help than the whole European Union.
They even paid a heavy price ! Respect to those soldiers !

Purely political about the 42.7. It was a case of using the crisis to further Euro Defense.
It seems to be a failure for now ...
except if it leads to other nations accepting leadership from the 2 that have the means?

:azn: :whistle: Tay.

Luxemburg has no real army.....only 18 E-3 Sentry's registered there for administrative reasons (NATO operated) iirc.

That is so sad... I feel sad for their citizens that wanted an army, but hey, we would rather be defenceless. Your country is smart one.

Luxembourg contributes an army of about 800 soldiers and 100 civil servants to its defense and to NATO. As a landlocked country, it has no navy.

Luxembourg also lacks an air force, though the 17 NATO AWACS aeroplanes are, for convenience, registered as aircraft of Luxembourg. In accordance with a joint agreement with Belgium, both countries have put forth funding for one A400M military cargo plane

The Luxembourg Army is the national military of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has no navy, as the country is landlocked, or air force, although it does have aircraft. The Luxembourg Army was integrated into the Force Publique (Public Force) which included the Gendarmerie and the Police. The Gendarmerie was merged into the Grand Ducal Police in 2000. The army has been an all-volunteer force since 1967. It has a current strength of approximately 450 professional soldiers, 340 enlisted recruits and 100 civilians, and a total budget of $369 million, or 0.9% of GDP.

According to an estimate of April 2015, the population of the country Luxemburg is 562,958.So, thats 1.42 soldier per 1000 population.

The population of the city Amsterdam is 831,279. The police force for the region in which Amsterdam lies has 6000 policemen, for a population of 1,000,000. That's 6 police per 1000

Luxembourg :laughcry:
... is a great (and rich) country.

In 2011, according to the IMF, Luxembourg was the second richest country in the world, with a per capita GDP on a purchasing-power parity (PPP) basis of $80,119. Luxembourg is ranked 13th in the Heritage Foundation's Index of Economic Freedom, 26th in the United Nations Human Development Index, and 4th in the Economist Intelligence Unit's quality of life index. If it weren't for my love for the sea, I'ld move there in a heartbeat.

It is smart for a country with a population of just half a million to not sink a lot of money into defence: it would be quite pointless.

Agreed my friend, especially the one in red which ends with :
"France, which has consistently taken the most hawkish line on the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, was not diluting its position, the diplomats said, while tiny Luxembourg, currently chairing the EU, takes the toughest line of all, arguing that Assad should be deposed by military means."

Is the lone guy a clone of Bruce Willis to warrant such an attitude? o_O :sniper:
:rofl:

You should place it last of that short list and thus have the thread eat its own head like that famed serpent.

Great catch, Tay.
