Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) won the first prize in the final presentation of “P2P: Challenging Extremism” competition at the US Department of State.

“Pakistan’s project ‘Fate: From apathy to empathy’ took first place and won $5,000 to expand their campaign within their local community,” US Consulate General Lahore wrote on its Facebook page.

University students from around the world, including Switzerland and the United States, developed campaigns and social media strategies against violent extremism that are credible, authentic, and believable to their peers and resonate within their communities.

LUMS Assistant Professor Taimur Rahman also confirmed the news on his Facebook account.

Earlier, Karachi Grammar School (KGS) won the best international delegation award, while The Lyceum bagged the best small delegation award at the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN), 2016 which was held in Boston, United States.

Other Pakistani schools that attended HMUN included Aitchison College from Lahore and Roots Millennium from Islamabad.

HMUN has three main delegation awards; Best Small Delegation, for teams with less than 10 members, Best Large Delegation, for teams with 10 or more members, and Best International Delegation.

A awesome job by these bright young people. May be there is hope still.

The Extremist's voices will be heard more loud and clear because they use Violence .
there are these young Pakistani's who are trying their best to Fix the society by Education, and there are other's who rely on Shariah and other system to transform the life of others. .
To understand the Pakistani's and their interest in Extremist ideology one have to go deeper in to the roots of our own Religious beliefs and the things we practice .
Recently young and old but educated People been caught helping Extremism and supporting the Banned Organizations, The govt is now spying on Universities to look for such people ... for them its their religious duty, and one can not simple change their minds in few months ..
Extremism will keep prevail in Pakistan unless we have , Education , Transparency , Justice , Security , Rights .

Good job by the LUMS students. Not such a good job by ET.

LUMS isn't just first among a few. LUMS won 1st Place in a competition against 44 other institutions world-wide!

No, you just try to prove your loyalty to a country that you reside in. We fully understand.

Yes, that would be the country that sponsored the whole thing, and where the Pakistani team was given the prize money. My taxes at work, yes. :D

How about dealing with the root causes of extremism? Fighting against rampant poverty, corruption, unequal opportunities, discrimination, religious bigotry sponsored from within and abroad, dealing with terror camps across the border, dealing with hate preaching petrodollar sponsored religious schools, demanding Uncle Sam to stop their dubious policy of supporting rebel i.e. terror groups doing their bidding and other well-known factors contributing to extremism. Extremism didn't fall out of the sky just one day. We and others have been sowing and nurturing this menace knowingly. We and others are obviously the key to abolishing extremism. No amount of fancy social media campaigns can reduce this menace. This is just fooling and kidding yourself.

LOL at your country sponsoring such a nonsensical and meaningless gathering. Like as if people are oblivious to the facts why extremism exists.

The outcome is laughable and irrelevant. It won't change one iota. The irreparable damage has been done extensively and the flame of extremism is raging from the Middle East to the streets of France. Keeping your head buried in the sand won't change the reality.

You can't defeat extremism without defeating all the things I mentioned before. Also, before holding such fancy gatherings, how about acknowledging and changing our own contribution and attitude to extremism? It is a futile and meaningless exercise.

Before you laugh, please look into how LUMS was created in Lahore in the first place. :D

What has this to do with the topic of extremism? Stop taking credit for everything. We know grandaddy America created this planet and pretends to own every inch of it. First of all, you're not even an American. It is ridiculous how you pretend to be one.
