Agreed but I too hate the racial chauvinists who slaughter Tamil women and children in the name of War on Terror and justify it.

No need to mention that politicians of JVP, JHU and other known racists.

If such a thing wanted by SL Army they should have done it very early when they clear those terrorists from some areas of east! Still there are surrendered carders under SL Army around 5000. Already released more than 5000 after rehabilitation. This is not an ethnic problem, one race in SL are claiming some areas are their homeland, but in SL every district has main 3 ethnic groups in deferent percentages! GoSL represents all those ethnic groups, they should protect all citizens, that is the responsibility of a government. Every citizen has same rights, there are no special rights for one ethnic group or one religion. Come and visit Sri Lanka you can get more facts by observation.
Tamil tigers got defeated, Don't forget JVP group got the same result coz of spreading the violence! Even with these two incidents Sri Lanka is in a good position in south Asian region. Tamils who live in Singapore and Malaysia doing better roles, Tamils who live in Sri Lanka will give far better support than now, Only we need "national leaders"! I respect our former foreign minister who was a Tamil but got killed by Tamil Tigers.

See no one in Tamil Nadu wants more violence in Sri Lanka because it directly affects our state because of the refugee problem.

LTTE is only a part of the problem. The bigger problem started first when the Estate Tamils were denied citizenship of erstwhile Ceylon. Later came the various discriminatory measures aimed specifically against the Tamils. This was the problem that created LTTE and even though SL have defeated them militarily if they do not address the core problem of the sense of discrimination among the Tamils who knows what will happen in future.

Let me give you an example - the first Maoist uprising in India happened in Naxalbari way back in 1960s. It was at that time brutally crushed by Indira and that problem was not there until last decade when they again sprung up because the core problem of economic discrimination was not solved by the Indian Govt.

Only now the Govt is taking some steps. Same is the case with any other such movement in the world.

Address the core issues of the Tamils - maybe minus the sovereignity - Give them some sort of political representation,. may be some provincial autonomy, equal status to Tamil Language and you can bury this LTTE movement forever. If you dont then every one who is now anti-LTTE will start thinking that the Tamils were more respected than now under the LTTE and if a thinking comes like that it will be the seed for another war.

Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe questioned the Prime Minister's contention and asked if the government had taken up the issue with the Indian leaders in their interactions. Mr. Jayaratne and his Cabinet colleagues did not answer.

Parliament extended the Emergency by a month with a majority of 75 votes. The Opposition United National Party, the Democratic National Alliance and the Tamil National Alliance voted against the motion.

No LTTE camps in Tamil Nadu: India

India [ Images ] reacted strongly to Sri Lanka's [ Images ] allegations of the presence of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam camps in the country on Thursday, and 'categorically' denied the existence of such camps in Tamil Nadu. It has also asked Colombo to 'desist from reacting to speculative and uncorroborated reports.'

"We have seen reports from Sri Lanka referring to the Sri Lankan Prime Minister D M Jayaratne's statement in their Parliament alluding to the presence of LTTE [ Images ] training camps in Tamil Nadu. We categorically deny the existence of any such camps," said an official spokesperson in the ministry of external affairs.

He added that the Sri Lankan government has also not taken up this issue with India. "Such a reference is indeed unfortunate and we urge them to desist from reacting to speculative and uncorroborated reports," he added.

Jayaratne had said that Vinayagam, a former Lanka rebel heads the operations in India with the assistance of one Oslo-based Nediyavan, and added that there was a chance that India-trained LTTE cadres may carry out attacks in Sri Lanka.

Tamils already have political representation, Elections were there and also there are some elections on coming months too. They have voted last time government parties as well as opposition parties, it is good move to see they are voting for mainstream political parties. Already GoSL has Tamil parties, some of Tamil parties with them since the beginning! The issue what you have mentioned as "Estate Tamils", Tamils in north says Jaffna Tamils came first before Tamil labors who currently live in the middle of country, so they have some less respect. There are some casts issues too, some Tamils doesn't accept some casts of other Tamils or they not going to their restaurants etc. I have Tamil neighbours around my home, One Tamil neighbor mentioned some casts name and told they are the respectful Tamils than other Tamils. Those things are not matching for 21st century, Anyway huge developments happening around country, Jaffna products are coming to Colombo, lot of local people visit Jaffna, also famous buddhist historical temple also hindu temples. Everything is getting normalize alot of tourism development happening in east.
Past years alot of tourists were from UK/Germany, Anyway last year majority tourists were from India I think! lol
