LTTE CONDUCTING TRAINING CAMPS IN TAMIL NADU INDIA - SRI LANKA

Tamils already have political representation, Elections were there and also there are some elections on coming months too. They have voted last time government parties as well as opposition parties, it is good move to see they are voting for mainstream political parties. Already GoSL has Tamil parties, some of Tamil parties with them since the beginning! The issue what you have mentioned as "Estate Tamils", Tamils in north says Jaffna Tamils came first before Tamil labors who currently live in the middle of country, so they have some less respect. There are some casts issues too, some Tamils doesn't accept some casts of other Tamils or they not going to their restaurants etc. I have Tamil neighbours around my home, One Tamil neighbor mentioned some casts name and told they are the respectful Tamils than other Tamils. Those things are not matching for 21st century, Anyway huge developments happening around country, Jaffna products are coming to Colombo, lot of local people visit Jaffna, also famous buddhist historical temple also hindu temples. Everything is getting normalize alot of tourism development happening in east.
Past years alot of tourists were from UK/Germany, Anyway last year majority tourists were from India I think! lol

I am happy if what you say are true - but even last month or so there was a news that said National Anthem in Tamil that has been there for many decades has been banned. Such moves only aggravate the feeling among the Tamils.

If no such anthem was there and if anything new was demanded then I understand by why ban an already existing thing especially after the brutal decades long war ??

Do you think we need more refugees and put strain on our state ? Think from this POV.

How exactly is India helping the LTTE cause by notifying potential assassin whereabouts to Tamilnadu police and Sri Lanka govt?

The article does not accuse India of any official involvement. You can have sympathesisers helping LTTE. They fanatically support LTTE. These folks are known to borrow money to fund LTTE.

India Slams Srilanka on LTTE charge.

NEW DELHI: Stunned by allegations that LTTE was operating terror camps in Tamil Nadu, India on Thursday came down heavily on Sri Lanka, asking it not to react on "speculative" and "uncorroborated" reports. Sri Lankan PM D M Jayaratne had said in Parliament on Wednesday that LTTE still had training centres in India.

"We have seen reports from Sri Lanka referring to the Sri Lankan prime minister's statement in their Parliament alluding to the presence of LTTE training camps in Tamil Nadu. We categorically deny the existence of any such camp," official spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said.

He said further the Lankan government had not communicated to India the presence of such camps. "Such a reference is indeed unfortunate and we urge Sri Lanka to desist from reacting to speculative and uncorroborated reports," he added. Jayaratne said a former Lankan rebel named Vinayagam headed the operations in India with the assistance of Nediyavan who is based in Oslo. He added that there was a chance that LTTE cadres trained in India may carry out attacks in Sri Lanka.

"We have intelligence reports of three clandestine training centres operated by the LTTE in Tamil Nadu. Their next target is to create small-scale attacks," Jayaratne said, adding that the island nation must be ready to face this threat. In fact, the Sri Lankan Opposition described Jayaratne's charge as a ploy to continue with the emergency law. The government was using the perceived threat from the defeated Tamil Tigers to justify maintaining draconian emergency laws, leader of opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe of UNP party alleged.

Good that the Indian Govt exposed the political motive of the SL PM in extending the emergency. Not only the Tamils but also many well-meaning Sinhalese have criticised the Sl PM for this politically motivated move.

SL serioulsy needs to move on and not cling on to the LTTE boogey man

Sri Lankan National Anthem is in Sinhala language coz majority of people can understand/use Sinhala language. (85%-90%+) , what you are mentioning is a Tamil translation of Sri Lankan National Anthem, There is a English translation too.

Thanks for the clarification - Some news reports came that Tamil version of the Anthem had been banned from singing in schools and it looks like Doughlas Dev had issued a clarification some days later that the idea was debated but was not implemented.

And how is the latest news of the PM saying LTTE camps in Tamil Nadu is being recieved by the public ?

People know those things are happening over there but not that much interest on those news. What people say here , now the terrorist problem is over so now we want rapid development. There are developments around the country, China handling major projects too, but people and opposition need more development projects. Most interesting project is the "Colombo Port City" project, new city in the sea!

Do they actually buy that news of LTTE operating in Tamil Nadu quoting "unnamed Indian intelligence sources" :hitwall: . Jeez.

Sri Lanka PM retracts India rebel training camp claim

BBC News, Colombo

Mr Jayaratne's speech to parliament on Wednesday drew a sharp response from the Indian government.
He said rebel fighters were being trained to launch terror attacks. Mr Jayaratne, a veteran politician who became prime minister last year, said an unknown number of fighters were based at three clandestine training centres operated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) itself in Tamil Nadu - the Indian state closest to Sri Lanka. He said his government had intelligence reports that one of the camps was giving specialist training in how to assassinate VIPs."Their next target is to create small-scale attacks," he said. "The entire nation must be ready to face this threat."Uncorroborated'

But on Thursday the spokesman for India's Ministry of External Affairs rebuffed Mr Jayaratne's remarks, saying Delhi "categorically" denied the existence of such camps and adding that the Colombo government had not raised such an issue diplomatically. "Such a reference is indeed unfortunate and we urge the government of Sri Lanka to desist from reacting to speculative and uncorroborated reports," he said.

On Friday Mr Jayaratne told the Daily Mirror that accounts of the supposed camps were "mentioned in two newspaper reports"."There appears to be false information in these reports," he said. Most of the LTTE's top leaders were killed as the Sri Lankan military crushed their decades-long insurgency in 2009. There has not been a rebel attack on the island since then. A section of the Tamil Nadu population and several of its prominent politicians support the LTTE or at least Sri Lankan Tamil separatism.

In the LTTE's early days in the 1970s and 1980s the then Indian government gave it and other separatist groups training and support. But today's Indian central government and the president of the Congress Party Sonia Gandhi, whose husband Rajiv was assassinated by the LTTE 20 years ago, are firmly opposed to the group. It is banned as a terrorist organisation in India.

Emergency laws

The Sri Lankan prime minister made his controversial remarks during the monthly debate on extending the state of emergency, which has existed in Sri Lanka on and off since 1971 and which was renewed by MPs on Wednesday. The emergency, along with the Prevention of Terrorism Act, gives the security forces far-reaching powers to arrest and hold people for long periods without trial.

The government says these laws are needed to combat a possible revival of the LTTE. It has given no indication of when the country might be able to reduce its state of alert. Sri Lanka and India are diplomatic allies but recently there have been tensions between the two neighbours, small and large, over fishing rights in the narrow strait between the two countries. Sri Lankan fishermen complain that Indians are intruding on their waters and using big trawler nets, depleting reserves and ruining their livelihood. But Indian villagers accuse the Sri Lankan navy of regularly using excessive force against Indian fishermen, even killing some of them - something Colombo denies.
