Well personally i favor ishfaq Ahmed and qamar Jawad bajwa. Consider them to be the better candidates for the army chief but hopefully if hayat becomes the army chief then he proves me wrong and does excellent work bcz we quite frankly need an army chief that will continue the good work of raheel Sharif and continue targetting terrorists.

Never the less if he gets the job then I will support him and hope that he proves me wrong and doea excellent work.

Gen Hayat isnt a bad choice.. in any case... any COAS will have to continue with the legacy of RS...

And who knows RS may even take extension...

Isnt Gen Ashfaq Nadeem often said to be .. Gen Raheel's right mand man? Also, hes had all the perfect postings to be an ideal candidate for COAS post..

He wasnt able to get karachi like powers for rangers in Punjab...supported Govt during dharna, and now recently, after its clear tht Dawn news was fed by Nawaz sharif's ministers and people sitting in PM house...i dont think any action will be taken against those culprits, sitting in Pm house... I dont think they will be arrested and then interrogated by ISI.. It will be another matti pao, like memo gate... At max, a minister might resign like Sen Mushahid hussain, resigned after interview against army, but i think no arrest wil be made..and hence no interrogation..on a such a dangerous breach of national security...

Lt General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, one of the leading contenders to become the next chief of the Pakistan Army, has held talks with a senior Chinese military official in Beijing, becoming the first top Pak military official to visit China after the Uri attack.

Lt General Hayat, chief of general staff of the Pakistan Army, held talks with Gen Fang Fenghui, member of China’s Central Military Commission and chief of the Joint Staff Department, state-run China Military Online reported. Although the report did not mention the purpose of the visit, it comes ahead of the scheduled retirement of General Raheel Sharif in November.

Gen Hayat’s trip is also the first time that a senior Pak Army official is visiting China since the attack on an Indian Army base in Uri in September by Pakistan-backed militants that killed 19 soldiers.

Gen Fang Fenghui in his meeting with Gen Hayat said China and Pakistan are “iron brothers” with all-weather partnership. China is willing to make joint efforts with Pakistan to achieve development so as to benefit the peoples of the two countries, the report quoted Gen Fang as saying.

He refused to give him extension despite lots of pressure and Gen and his team so much humiliated they have to issue statement that he does't want extension despite the fact P.M already announced he won't give him extension in service.

The winds of change were started with Gen Kiyani who was the first one to challenge the western influence and refused to blindly bend down to demands of USA etc. He was suppose to have served like 3 years and go away with dignity. But his extended years earned him quite a black spot. Gen Raheel continued his legacy of non interference in politics but had set limits of that non interference. He came with a mission of restoration of peace in Pakistan. So either he wud have stood against NS and had payed way for his departure or wud have concentrated on cleansing Tribal areas. It was mainly bcz of his assurances that CPEC was kicked off by China. It was him who stunned the world by bluntly saying NO to sending troops in conflicts in ME. He restored peace in Karachi and planted the sapling of peace in Balochistan. Gen Kiyani initiated start of relationship with Russia while Gen Raheel took it to whole new level. In Punjab he took out Chotto Gang and is asserting for actions in Punjab too. Purpose of narrating this all was that every COAS is coming with a role and task and carries on the legacy of what was left by previous one. Gen Raheel for the first time had raised the issue of economic terrorism and that is why almost all political parties except few had united against him. With current situation at borders it was not at all wise to take actions against all those in just this small a time as it wud have back fired damn badly. Gen Raheel had done more than enough in his 3 years and remainder is suppose to be done by next COAS and story goes on. There is no Miita Pao of any sort and each step is taken according to its timings. Otherwise we wud have seen Dr Asim, uzair Baloch etc roaming freely like that.
