I think this was a good move for Faiz. He needed to come out of a politically sensitive posting, into a non-political one. Peshawar always gave fodder to the opposition to speak to the "support" he was giving to PTI. This move shuts people's mouths and potentially allows him though unlikely to stay a strong contender for Chief position.

That comes with the territory of the 31st. So not sure what more can be speculated.
Like I said that he is tucked away in Bahawalpur away from all political noise. The new guy appointed to Peshawar is pretty good as well with some good past appointments which gives him some tools he'll need. I do think however there is something to be said about timing. Faiz was well plugged into the entire KPK scene. He had a solid institutional support (agency), and he was central in driving some sort of rapprochement with TTP and Taliban. This shift to 31st takes care of so many thing for so many people. If you see KPK TTP temperature rise then we'll know why this change was made. US is starting to drive a more central seat on our policy with Taliban - which for some time the PTI govern and their NSA had pushed back pretty hard on.

1. Infantry formation command - Division and Corps
2. Intelligence - ISI
3. Counter Intelligence (this is critical as it led him towards post of DG ISI)
4. AG - Army correspondence; and overseeing personnel actions, records, decorations and awards, publications, postal service, recreational activities, and career guidance for officers.

Now,
5. Maneuver formation command including armor, mechanized and self propelled assets, however not a strike Corps.

He is undergoing all essential military experiences, posts and commands.

Will tell Lt Gen Faiz Hameed to send 14th ID or 40th ID to Swat or KPK once again from his new command of 31 Corps.
