Lost 3 crore, I need help

My father and I live in the U.S and we have a lot of property in Pakistan in which we sell and buy to make money. We cannot make constant trips, so my father's handler for this business is his brother who my father trusted really well and we had bought/sold many properties through him.

We sold a plot worth around 3 crore (around 260,000 dollars) and the check/cash was given to my uncle in his name by the buyer. My uncle lost all of the money within a span of 15-20 days to gambling inflicting a large financial and emotional blow to the family.

There is little that we can do against the gambling mafia as they are dangerous and have lots of influence and connections, taking any action against them can threaten your life and the life of your family members.

Is there anything that can be done to recover this money through legal methods considering that gambling is illegal in Pakistan? I know it's pretty hopeless at this point, but are there any options?

My uncle was near to committing suicide and we would not like to press any legal actions against him. If it's possible, legal action should be directed towards the gamblers instead.

Sorry for your loss; as mentioned repeatedly by other members. Don't rule out the possibility of your uncle being involved in this. I have reasonable doubt about the story he is telling and the cover up. As you said he took out money during 15-20 days period. If he was that depressed and was loosing the money he could've had come talking to you guys before paying up. I find it very difficult to digest that once he lost the money he came clean and tried to commit suicide multiple times. The story just doesn't fit. If police just trace the vehicle that is taken; they can reach to the gamblers in days. If you guys hand in your uncle to police, they will reach to the gamblers in hours; of course for that your uncle have to do a bit to "hawalat ki sair"

Either way your uncle have to go to jail as he is the person who gambled "your" money.

Also, come to Pakistan in person to get this sorted out. There is no point of contacting lawyers from US. Visit local DSP office where this happened, lodge an FIR, this will be resolved in few days.

The power of attorney / rights to property etc is suppose to grant the other person "FULL" rights to do what they wish with the property from legal prespective.

Not necessary true..it can also be limited power of attorney!

I am still looking for lawyers, I found several Pakistani law firms online and contacted them but @BHarwana has said that the internet is not a good place to find lawyers. Our family does not know any 'good' lawyers, most lawyers we have in contact are local lawyers who fight mostly petty cases.

If someone could please refer me one (this happened in Sialkot), that would be very helpful. @DESERT FIGHTER
