What's new

Lord Ram is Nepali, says Nepal PM KP Oli

Lord Rama is everyone's, and everyone belongs to him. Btw this oli guy has become mentally infirm and his days in power are numbered.

He has gone mentally unstable like his master Xi . Whosoever messes with Modi looses his mental stability. Xi tried to project himself a strong leader and in the process reduced himself to a laughing stock backtracked.

Nepal has minorities ?
Yes, and that's the thing. If Nepal had a huge minority, even they would have had run-ins with them. Since the minority percentage is small, it comes off as an extremely secular, tolerant country with religious syncretism between Hindus and Buddhists, just like Thailand.

Nepal is so secular, you can't convert from Hinduism to any other religion.

No, Nepal is not secular.
Is there a law like that? If yes, please post the link as I'm unaware about it.

Additionally, can Muslims convert to another religion in BD? That too is one of the hallmarks of secularism. India allows religious conversion although I think religion is given undue importance in South Asia.

Proselytising aka spreading other religions (except Hinduism) is prohibited by law and is punishable by fines.

The constitution declares Nepal a 'hindu kingdom'.

Let's be honest, Nepal with tiny amount of minorities is not secular.

Nobody can stop you if you want to convert, just keep it quiet and stay away from religious hardliners.

People don't like to admit it, but Bangladesh is as secular as poor south Asians societies can get, don't forget our culture is an irreligious one.

Bangladeshis celebrate both Muslim and Hindu festivals and Bengali festivals and Bengali festivals are drawn from Hindu history of Bengal.

So if we were radicals we'd stop calling ourselves Bengalis out of shame.

Are people allowed to convert in BD? If you want to go one up over Nepal and label yourself as the most 'secular' nation, this too is one of the important parameters.

I think South Asian countries need to take a cue from Central Asia countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, etc and strictly monitor religious activity. That's when there will be a giant economic leap in the region.

Read that post.

This isn't about one upping, I'm simply stating what I know and have observed.

The only person you'll see talking about minority oppression in Bangladesh are Indians, Hindu Bangladeshis are protected by the government and hold a disproportionate amount of government jobs especially as police station superintendents.

I will admit, we don't hold hands with Hindus and say Hindu Muslims Bhai Bhai. That doesn't happen, because religion doesn't come up in daily life unless you're an extremist of some kind.

Hindus do face problems but these are not related to religion but just problems every Bangladeshi faces, like land grabbing by powerful people.

Of course there are violent incidents, nobody does usually but temples are destroyed and stuff like that, usually start from Facebook rumours or reaction to Indian NRC CAA or lynching of Muslims.

I think I'll prefer having a convo with a Bangladeshi than a Pakistani anyday if given the option. I watched a few YT videos and the students actually had a cool, laidback attitude to things in general and the guys who you can have a chat with in ease.

It doesn't mean that I won't enjoying talking with the easy-going Pakistanis though but I'm just referencing the overall population.

I ammended by above post, read it, might give you some perspective.

In short, we live in relative harmony but yeah we have violent events but killing Hindus is pretty rare and the police usually step in before the extremists try anything like that.

What I mean to say is that if you compare Nepal and BD, Nepal is better in its treatment of minorities as we haven't heard these kinds of news from Nepal. But I also mentioned a caveat, and that is the population of minorities in Nepal is very low and thus lower chances of conflicts in general.

Among the cricket players, I like Moshrafe Mortaza not that much because of his game (no doubt he is a good allrounder) but because of his good personality. Shakib too is one of the finest allrounders but has temper issues.

Depends on who you ask. I for one believe all religions are mythology.

He could be right though. But that does not matter as Nepal is part of Akhand Bharat
But it is not under the Babri Masjid then is it? only Indians can be this shameless! There is no temple of Ram under the Babri if his temple was in Nepal!

Conflicts have nothing to do with secularism, our judiciary and our government is secular and doesn't favour a particular religion.

Conflicts will always flare up in backward underdeveloped countries like ours, important thing is what does the government do to prevent conflicts or stifle existing ones.

The parliament has passed many laws to protect minorities from abuse, much to the ire of religious hardliners.

Don't forget we are the only significant Muslim majority country with a female head of state.

If we're a nation of crazies, we'd have never elected Hasina and khaleda Zia before her.

A communist become religious .... not sure its power of Ram or fear of losing chair, for us Ram is every where even in Nepal...
