Loongson 28nm chip steps into actual operation stage

Share: OFweek) - Loongson launched the new architecture GS46E -based quad-core processor 3A-1500 at the end of last year, according to the report. Soon after that, the processor's performance test was also leaked, which indicated that the domestic chip had a higher performance than i7 3770 in floating point arithmetic of Whetstone.

Yet, the chip adopted 40nm process, far lagging behind most products in the market.

The 3A2000 is reportedly to adopt 28nm processor whose main frequency is up to 1.5GHz to 2GHz, and Loongson has already announced on its official website that the product is now stepping into an actual operation stage, according to the recent sources.

At present, Loongson has not unveiled the detailed performance of 3A2000 chip, yet the industry experts believe that the chip may compete against Intel and AMD.

It is perfectly understandable if that is what it is for. I am replying to the comment that China is replacing foreign technology, which to me by default includes commercial space.
And China has no capabilities for a top notch chip industry right now.

Loongson chips are already replacing Intel chips in government and state-owned enterprises computers.

China's FeiTeng chips (FT-1500) are already equipping Chinese supercomputers such as Tianhe-1A and 2.

China's ShenWei chips that already built the Sunway BlueLight supercomputer all using ShenWei chips which was ranked #11 on the Top 500 list when it came out.

China has Rockchip chips that are being used in tablets and smartphones at 28nm.

China has Hisilicon Kirin chips used in their smartphones including at 16nm.

China already has SMIC foundry that is making chips for Qualcomm at 28nm.

China's AMEC semiconductor equipment brand also produces advanced etching tools.

China IS replacing foreign chips in supercomputers, desktops/laptops, in smartphones, in tablets. As Chinese chips advance, the replacing of foreign chips will advance faster.

Don't ever compare a backward NATO (No Action, Talk Only) country like India to a very capable country like China......EVER!

Of course you are not here, in India. But, there have been tremendous changes in the attitude. Earlier the state and local governments used to fight over government subsidies etc. Today, they are fighting among each other for investment and ecconomic growth. Something like Chinese intra-provincial competition.

I expect our growth rate to maintain an average CAGR of 8.5% over the next 10 years.
