Pakistan's renowned qawwali singer, Amjad Sabri who was brutally shot dead in Karachi on Wednesday, faced blasphemy charges in 2014.

Islamabad High Court had issued notice to the singer and two TV channels for playing qawwali in a morning show making mention of some religious figures. The qawwali was deemed as offensive.

While the blasphemy case was registered against Geo News, the onus was put on the Ajmad Sabri and the lyricist for the blasphemy row by the advocate. Ban was sought on the qawwali that caused the row.

According to the Dawn newspaper, notices were also issued to Federal Information Secretary, chief executive of ARY, anchors Mubashir Lucman, Nida Yasir and Shaisata Lodhi, chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and Chairman Cable Operators Association of Pakistan.

I am surprised that you don't know Taslima nasreen. She is one the greatest writers from Bangladesh. She has taken asylum in west because of death threats from islamists and jamaties.

Here's another example of her trying to take an unpopular stance but without a valid cause....Amajd Sabri was high profile muslim celebrity..no high profile person has been killed in Bangladesh by Islamists....one high profile person who was attacked by Islamists was Humayun Azad(he died later of other causes)...he was openly atheist....but his namaz-e-janaza was attended by thousands of people(who knew he was atheist)....

Why are these atheist people are given namaj e Janaza? It's a complete mockery of their life. Why do they need a islamic certificate after their death?

I don't want one...and I doubt someone as anti-religion as Humayun Azad would want one either...And I don't know why they are given a janaza...the only reason I could think of is that in our culture we don't have any other form of funeral..Here in the west funerals are usually more secular except for the very small parts where the priests say their prayers...mostly people recall good memories and stuff...but in our culture(which is an Islamic culture for most part) funerals are more ritualistic and we just can't relate any other form of "honoring the dead" other than a janaza...if a Hindu-atheist dies here we will probably see a purohit chanting mantras and then cremating him.

Another thing...some of my relatives are from the "higher echelons of society" and every year we have milad mahfils for my grand parents which is usually attended by politicians,intellectuals,singers,foreigners etc....and it is quite funny when you see the intellectuals and the singers acting all "muslim-ish" when you know so very well how religious they are...the hypocrisy is comedic and enraging at the same time.
