Its more about getting technological know how. India wont select F-1 as Indian Airforce strategies are based on neutralizing Pakistan's aircrafts.
It will surely allow India to look closely and understand F-16.
India care more about economic and technological gain. It will create more jobs and training of Indian engineers.
