Liz Truss has announced she is resigning as prime minister after just six weeks in the role.

There will be a leadership election within a week, Ms Truss said.

It comes after the chair of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady entered No 10 for a crisis meeting with the prime minister, followed by party chair Jake Berry.

Ms Truss’ brief stint as leader involved a mini-Budget that spooked the market, the sacking of her close ally and chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, the resignation of home secretary Suella Braverman and chaos in Westminster around a confidence vote where there were allegations of senior Tories manhandling and bullying colleagues.

Just yesterday she told PMQs she is a “fighter not a quitter.”

Conservative MP Simon Hoare said Liz Truss only had 12 hours to save her premiership while Lord David Frost, a former Brexit minister who backed Truss for PM, called for her to go in addition to more than a dozen MPs.

britain's political elite, like america's, are rotting away and their cohesion is that of a broken mind. This is the fourth british prime minister to bite the dirt after brexit referendum.

The demise of the West is clear as daylight for anyone who is intuitive. This winter will be an expensive one, but they will drag through the season pretending that everything is just dandy. By this time next year, the West will be on its knees, grovelling and barking at the rest of the world.

Josef Borrell will be defecating his garden since there wouldn't be any hot water due to lack of gas powered boilers. Oh wait, the elite won't suffer, its the average Westerners who will be doing so. The rest of the world, the Jungle (as per Borrell) will improve as the West's grip on them will begin to whither away.

Stupid woman who is brainless and only know shouting anti China slogan everyday. She deserve to be boot.

This has nothing to do with being anti-China. This has everything to do with his own party does not stand behind her, you can even say the other MP in Tory basically sabotage her Premiership.

You don't want to chase all rich away from your shore, right?

What do you mean by chase all rich away? I am saying the British Government should tax those corporation that made a killing during COVID and this Energy Crisis (Ie Retail, Energy and Mining Sector) instead of borrow money to restart the economy.

Unlike China, UK is a heavy welfare state, you can't operate a welfare state without high tax. Truss wants the cake and eat it, and that's the result.

How Sunak could be crowned PM on Monday

Sunak has the momentum in the MPs contest.
He is circa 60 nominations away from having 179 backers, or the support of more than half of MPs - and before a single vote has been cast.
At that point it is realistic to ask whether either Mordaunt or Johnson could reach the threshold of 100 nominations.
It is possible this will all be done and dusted, with Sunak crowned new Tory leader and UK prime minister, at 2pm on Monday.
To be clear, we are in the territory of realistic hypothesis, not certainty.
Who is backing who in the Tory leadership race?
But Sunak’s lobbying operation seems to be working.
In a way, having warned very loudly that Truss’s tax-cutting plans would be a catastrophe, perhaps that should not be a surprise.
It is probable also that many MPs have looked over the precipice, since Johnson’s supporters started their campaign to bring him back, and want to say goodbye to the disunity and chaotic governance of the Johnson era.
Or to put it another way, there seems to be a mood, a trend, among Tory MPs to prevent the contest going to a members’ vote.
Because it is only Tory members who if allowed to vote would carry Johnson back into 10 Downing Street.
Rishi Sunak in lead but Boris Johnson allies claim growing numbers
Why Johnson’s possible return is so momentous

To be honest, I started to think the whole Liz Truss saga is just a ploy to get BoJo back on the top job.

If Rishi is politically (cynically) smart, he will stay away this time. Let the crazies pick Boris again (or Penny), go through couple more months of 10% inflation, 10% interest rate, 10% unemployment, 10% devaluation, have pound crash below Dollar and Euro.... and then get elected with no opponents.

If he gets voted in he will eventually become the most hated man in the UK and pass on the sh!t to the Labour Party.

Penny and Boris seem to be tops.

Take a look at what they are saying about Sunak;

LOL!!!!!!

I said after the debacle of Trussonomics and I'll say it again. The UK-ites deserve all these jokers for being racially motivated and should continue play the musical chair game. Like @epebble said, if Sunak has any political guile, he should stay away from this game of thrones for now. Biggest gain for the labours in decades as the tories keep shooting themselves in their foot.
