I went to HK and Macau. Interesting cities, interesting people. Had plan to visit China somewhen. My spouse however said there are plenty of beautiful countries out there why visit China. Chinese are disrespectful, they look down on us.

You sound paranoid. Most Chinese don't have an opinion on Vietnamese and see them as culturally similar. They don't even realize that Vietnamese hate them. But it's your choice where you want to visit. It's not like if you go to White Western countries, they don't look down on you for being Asian.
