Life in Australia as an Immigrant

Australia is a very good country to migrate. As you are an engineer, you have to get your qualification assessed & validated by Engineers Australia. Also you should not loose heart if initially you do not get a job in your profession or as per your qualification. Take up whatever job you get & keep trying for the right one and eventually you will succeed.

Its for sure that you are going to have hard time while applying for visa and get approved. They are clamping down immigration and I heard that pakistani citizens are considered in high risk zone.(not particularly in Australia)

i am not an immigrant, i am australian.
you will find if you are decent, treat people with respect, dont get into trouble, dont try change our way of life, accept australia and its culture, and dont try changing it

I am sure he has no intention to point gun over your head to ask you to change your ways of lives or stop eating bacon lol

What is Australian culture ? Should immigrants have to give up their own culture to live in Australia?
if you are not a good person, if you come here and do crime, mouth off, treat our women crap, rip off my country and its people, if you try to change our way of life and culture, because you dont believe in say christmas, or bacon etc then seriously dont come, and most people wont like you, you would just further make people not like others from your country without little reason, and it be totally on your head, as it is with many others.

lol what about those local white Australian who do commit crimes and don't believe in Xmas and treat women like trash or you think only immigrants do such things . Why he should believe in bacon lol haha. Is it law of Australia to eat bacon or believe in xmas in order to stay in Australia ? :D

if you come here for work, are a genuine good person and dont rip off my country or people then welcome.

but anyway, if you got something good to offer my country, then welcome to come

The last person you wanna ask is Developeroreo.

You might like the medium size cities in Australia like Perth or Adelaide.

And there isnt really a gang problem its just you hear about it more often because its a well developed country prison population is 1 of the lowest in the developed world.

There is mega bux to be made in western australia with the mining projects which you mostly do 2 weeks on and 1 week off get free meals and free accommodation etc.

Try out a few casinos if you come over here;)

Respect the ways of our life etc etc

Just so you know it can be very very very difficult to come over.

What sorta Engineering are you doing at uni?

I am here for last three months in sydney, will be going back to india in january.
Its very good city, country, people are extremely helpful.
And you will find in big cities almost 40-50% population is made of asians.

You will also get lots indian-pakistani, nepali restaurents here. SO you will not starve definitely.
You can cook also, you will get most of things in supermarkets.
There are some suburban areas in cities where majority population is made up of south asians.

What about Work?

Just a question on the good vs bad immigrant views from an Australian, one of the most attractive thing about Australian is the free health care. In most countries you've got insured health care and people with old parents aren't eligible to health insurance, either. In essence the options are to grow old and then die (you're retired so you won't have the necessary earnings to pay for the huge bills yourself).

So someone who brings their parents along is probably a burden on the Australian economy. Are they seen as such or the work/skills they contribute offset that?

Also I don't know how much of a cultural invasion this would seem to an Australian if someone brings their parents along. Taking care of the old folks is generally a duty in the Pakistani culture. This also means they are less likely to put them in old people's homes and pay for their shelter, clothing and food themselves.

What about Work?

First & foremost you may not be able to choose the state you want to migrate unless you get a federal PR, which is a little difficult these days. You will have to migrate through state sponored PR & it will depend on which state will have your profession listed in their SOL (Skill Occupation List) or skill required list. Whichever state that accepts your application & processes it, you will have to live and work there for a minimum of 2 years. Only after that can you shift your base.

I dont think theyd be allowed to apply for permanent residence i'm preety sure to live in Australia you need to be very well qualified and work for a certain amount of years and even then its a ***** to be able live here.

austraila is giving priority federal PR to Engineers...that is the reason i started this thread

Then I would suggest Sydney would be a good place for you. The cost of living is a little high, but you will find a job in your profession faster there.
