Libyan rebels capture part of Brega in east, near Zawiyah in west
BENGHAZI, Libya, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) --
On the eastern front near Brega,
Libyan rebels have captured the
residential districts of the oil town on
Thursday but Gaddafi's forces still hold
western parts of the town where the oil facilities are located, Libya TV said. The residential area is about 15 km
east of the oil terminal and sea port. While in the west front, the rebel forces
had pushed toward Zawiyah, trying to
get within striking distance of Tripoli,
leader Muammar Gaddafi's capital, it
said. They reached the village of Bir Shuaib,
25 km from Zawiyah, which has
unsuccessfully risen up against
Gaddafi twice this year. It lies less than 50 km west of Tripoli, on the main
road to Tunisia, which has been a lifeline for Libya.

Libya struggles amid stalemated
conflict
BENGHAZI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Libyan rebels strengthened the efforts to push forward their troops to Tripoli in the west front following NATO's biggest ever air strike on the Libyan capital on Tuesday. The rebels seemed to have made some advances in the west front. Colonel Ahmed Omar Bani, a military spokesman based in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi, said that
"Zliten will never return to be at the hand of (Libyan leader Muammar)
Gaddafi," while both the rebels and
Gaddafi forces claimed control of Bir Ghanam, a town about 80 kilometers south of Tripoli.

Russian president signs decree
backing U.N. resolution against
Libya
MOSCOW, Aug. 12 -- Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree Friday backing the U.N. Security Council resolution that authorized international military action in Libya,
the presidential press service said. Russia abstained from voting on UNSC Resolution 1973, which imposed a no-fly zone over Libya and tightened sanctions on the North African country, when the measure was presented in March. According to a decree posted on the Kremlin's website, Russia has agreed to ban all flights to Libya in Russian air space with the exception of flights for
humanitarian purposes or for making an emergency landing. Moreover, Russian military ships are allowed to inspect vessels in the open sea going to or from Libya, provided Russia has information about the
military use of the vessels. The decree also bans all financial
operations involving the assets of
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his family. It was not immediately clear why
Medvedev signed the decree five
months after Resolution 1973 was
passed. Russia has been critical of NATO-led military operations in Libya, calling for a peaceful and political solution to the crisis.

flag in the center of this town near the
capital on Sunday after the most
dramatic advance in months cut off
Muammar Gaddafi's capital from its
main link to the outside world. The swift rebel advance on the town
of Zawiyah, about 50 km (30 miles)
west of Tripoli, will deal a
psychological blow to Gaddafi's
supporters and also cuts the coastal
highway to Tunisia which keeps the capital supplied with food and fuel.

Under Gaddafi Libya had the highest living standard in all of Africa, Free healthcare, Free Money, Free collage, if Gaddafi falls the real civil war will start between the rebels and Islamist.

It's technically a "foreign intervention" since the rebels can't even survive for few seconds without the support of NATO airstrike, but even with NATO support, the rebels can't make major advance whatsoever.

I have no idea why so many people are on side of rebels, eveeybody should visit obamaslibya and then tell me what kind of Muslim beheads another muslim or feeds human and animal flesh to another muslim????

I have also saved somewhere in my favorites a speech by Farrakhan(not a big fan of him) about Libya's progress and wealth as African nation.
