Lianna Swan to represent Pakistan in 50m freestyle event at Olympics

by that logic most Pakistanis are Indians!

how? by that logic most Pakistanis will be Indian wouldn't they? the girl very clearly says she chose Pakistan because there is little competition compared to the UK team.

Let's hope the mullahs don't pass a fartwa to make her swim in sack cloth and pillow cases

Anyways, always happy to see a desi shine in sports and good luck to her. We ay s much attention to stupid cricket and very little to anything else! It is wonder we even get someone to participate!
There is a thing called dual nationality i dont know if India offers it but we definately do even Carla Khan first represented Britian

She had two nationalities and two options and she chose the team in which she had more chance of competing internationally

She is not the first Pakistani to compete so its best if you keep your opinions ablut molvis to yourself

the mullah fartwa thing is not an empty speculation. It is precisely because of what they have done in the past. Not just female sportpersions, even to male foot ball teams

After the first episode of the Dream Big Pakistan project, the second episode of the video series features swimmer Lianna Swan, 19, who is currently representing Pakistan at the Rio Olympics 2016 as a wild card entrant.

Lianna Swan to represent Pakistan in 50m freestyle event at Olympics
“To get into the Olympics, you really have to put in the work and hours.”

“It’s not necessarily why I am doing this to get to the Olympics myself. I am also doing this for the girls in Pakistan because if they see me doing it and if they’ve seen me swim, they see me train and they seen me being able to go to the Olympics they know that there’s no reason why they can’t make it to the Olympics as well.”

Lianna specialises in breaststroke and freestyle and currently holds seven national records in swimming. Lianna has been representing Pakistan internationally since 2010.

She will be competing with seven other swimmers in her heat, with a total of 92 swimmers in the category vying to earn a berth in the semi-finals, reports The Express Tribune.

Why did the water in Olympic diving pool suddenly turn green?

She has competed in the Asian Games, the Fina World Cup (Dubai 2011), Fina World Aquatics Championships (Barcelona 2013) and the FINA World Championships August 2015, held in Kazan- Russia.
Most recently, she won the Gold Medal at the South Asian Games held in India in February 2016.

Yaar once again this girl is no Pakistani, she wanted to represent Britain but was not good enough, in the case of Carla Khan at least due to her father she belonged culturally to Pakistan, the same thing can not be said here.

Carla too represented Britian in her early days

Pakistan should not accept matrilineal lineage as a general rule.
Wouldnt it make women lesser beings?
So what if a Pakistani woman marries some non Pakistani dude dont you think her kids should be given nationality what if they are more attached to Pakistan than their father,s country?

Yaar we are rejecting Afghans who are born in Pakistan with Pakistani mothers, why should we choose this lady, when their is a genuine Pakistanis who want to represent their countries, Yaar with all due respect I do not consider her Pakistani, she is not born their, a father from completely different culture, never has resided in Pak, how is she more Pak than half Afghans or Bihari.
@The Sandman @Moonlight
Is this true that Pakistan is rejecting Pakistan born Afghans?

Excellent point, we do not accept it for neighbouring Afghans who we have religious and cultural links with, why should they change rules for this lady.

They have their fathers country, if they have no pride for their father country what makes you think they will have pride in Pak, especially this swann lady who was eager to represent her fathers britian.

Yes Chaudry Nisar has issued directives, it was stated in an article in Dawn.

Carla is the daughter of a Pakistani father, culturally speaking Pakistanis find this more acceptable, as usually speaking it is the man who decides the culture and faith of his children ,generally speaking, personally speaking I would have preferred a desi Pakistani in her place, though I can tolerate Carla representing us.

No it does not make women lesser. In Islam and Pakistan's culture, identity is patrilineal. In short Men are leaders and are ultimately responsible for their families. Of course there are exceptions.

.
Lol why doesn't she represent Britain in Olympics?

Ohh wait, she didn't qualify! :)

Nobody marries afghans in Pak .. Unless it's some ugly fukwit who buys an afghan woman.

This is good news. I hope the directives are carried out.

In KPK their are some marriages of Afghan men with local females.

Nope.. In KPK even finding a house on rent for afghans is an uphill task.: people don't even give them houses/property for rent and they are considered lowest of the low... And nobody calls them "afghan" rather it's kabuli.. They are stereotyped and considered untrustworthy,unhygienic/dirty and criminals..

I know because I've lived a long time in KPK and my in laws are also from
KPK.
