LG’s last year flagship, the modular G5 didn’t prove to be much of a success. The major reason for its failure was that it was heavily marketed as a modular smartphone with interchangeable modules and surprisingly, LG didn’t manufacture enough modules for it to be a success. Issues like these made it hard for the G5 to progress with the same success and fame that some of its predecessors enjoyed.

However, this year, LG is hoping to turn it all around with its 2017 flagship, the G6. Most companies do everything under their power to keep their products under wraps but that doesn’t stop heroes like Evan Blass and OnLeaks from regularly leaking details about upcoming flagships and tech products.

LG G6 – Design & Display
Rumors and some renders for the LG G6 started appearing a few months back and one of the most important one of them all was the fact that LG might be ditching its modular design for its flagship. It’s almost as if they realized that when you make a modular phone, you also need to make modules for such a phone. However, seeing that the G5 wasn’t such a huge success, they decided to totally let go of the idea of making any more modular phones.

Twitter user @OnLeaks showed factory images of the gorgeous LG G6. And it looks like LG is using a unique blend of metal and glass this time around.

The leak further cemented the rumor that LG was done with modules and that it’s now moving on towards a good looking device. The renders also give a hint of what kind of material the G6 might use in its build, either glass or metal on the back with metal sides. Not only that but the renders also let us have a peek at the 2-camera configuration where one of them is a wide-angle lens along with dual-LED flash.

Not long after the first leak, we got our first real look at the LG G6 by someone anonymous who claimed to have the working prototype.

The photo nearly fits and lines up with the images that were leaked by @OnLeaks. Here’s a leaked CAD image in a different color.

It is rumored that the dimensions of the G6 will be 148.8 x 72.3 x 8.3mm making it very similar to the G5 and the smallest device with a 5.7-inch display. The photo also confirmed the fact that the G6 will be coming with dual cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Fast forward to 11th January and LG uploaded a “wish list for your smartphone” video in which they basically went around asking people what they thought would be the ideal smartphone and at the end they showed an image of what seemed like a list of features that might be included with the LG G6. Of course, the video was one of the very first teasers by LG and it gave us a lot of hints at what we should expect.

Soon after that first teaser, the pace on the leaks picked up and we got our first look at the LG G6 from the front.

The image below pretty much sums up how its gonna look from the front.

On the front you get a gorgeous 5.7-inch bezelless display that is allegedly still QHD+. However, rumors suggest the screen now has an 18:9 aspect ratio resulting in a longer screen. A QHD+ resolution display that will be coming in at 1440 x 2880 pixels, will result in an impressive pixel density of 564 pixels per inch.

Full body renders were then leaked soon afterwards showing the LG G6 in all its glory. Over the LG G5, the design seems to have improved a lot. The bezels look minimum and a screen to body ratio of 85% isn’t out of the question.

LG G6 – Miscellaneous
Apart from the design aspects, as far as the performance is concerned, the LG G6 is expected to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 which coincidentally also comes with the Google Pixel and Pixel XL and the OnePlus 3T. Most people might be discouraged by the fact that the latest and fastest Snapdragon 835 rumors say Samsung is hogging up the latest Snapdragon. However, it is still a rumor and its possible we might see it with a SD 835.

So far the amount of RAM has not been credibly leaked by anyone but do expect a minimum of 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. A 6GB variant isn’t out of the question either.

No matter how bad the LG G5 was, it did have a great camera and LG seems to have noticed that too. So for that reason, LG might also be carrying the same dual-lens setup. One of them will be a standard camera lens while the other one will be a wide-angle lens.

Apart from all that, the LG G6 will also be having a reversible USB Type-C port, loudspeaker at the bottom of the device and, thankfully, a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Yesterday, LG uploaded another teaser photo on Facebook for the LG G6 that basically confirms the bezelless display that is visible in the pictures. LG claims that the G6 will have a “Big Screen That Fits”. Well, to see that, we’ll have to wait for the announcement on 26th February.

Pricing and Final Thoughts

Its all but confirmed that LG is coming up with a waterproof phone with a great camera, unique design and a near bezelless body with over 85% screen-to-body ratio. The death of the modules was expected and we actually think that it is a good idea. However, the LG G6 is also expected to drop support for the removable battery which might be a deal breaker for some people.

Pricing for the LG G6 is expected to start at around $600, which doesn’t sound so steep considering what most other flagships available in the market cost.

Not buying LG ever. LG after sale service is sloppy. I predict boot loop and other hardware problems will still prevail in new models

Not bezel-less.

This Xiaomi is better in bezels than G6

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is one amazing almost bezel-less phone
If seeing is believing, be sure to check out this almost all-screen phone from China.

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is a glimpse into the future. Sold only in China (though you can get the phone from online third-party retailers), the review model costs 3,499 yuan, which converts to around $510, AU$680 or £420. There's also a premium model with 18-carat gold embossing, 6GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage for 3,999 yuan (approximately $590, AU$770 or £480).

The phone is visually stunning. It's hard not to be amazed by its large borderless 6.4-inch display. It seems to almost spill out into the real world.

While the phone is big, it's actually only slightly bigger than Apple's iPhone 7 Plus. The screen is much bigger though.

Here's a closer peek -- you can see a little bit of bezel.

At the bottom is a 10 mm chin where the front 5-megapixel selfie camera is. The relatively large chin also lets you hold the phone without your palm touching the screen.

The phone isn't very thick at 7.9 mm (0.31 inches), and even from the sides, you can see how glossy the ceramic body is.

The phone lacks any Xiaomi logo, just the words "Mix designed by Mi." The rear is quite the fingerprint magnet, so be prepared for plenty of ugly smudges. Xiaomi has moved the fingerprint sensor to the rear, which makes for easy unlocking of the phone when you're holding it.

The lack of an edge is pretty amazing to behold, but it's not the first time we've seen a phone feature something like this.

The Mix features quick charging via its USB Type-C port. Despite the presence of two speaker grilles, the phone only has one located on the right.

While the Mix has a much bigger screen than the other two phones, it's only a tad larger overall.

Having the screen extend all the way to the top just makes the phone stand out compared to the competition.
