Letter from India: India can't wait to put the 'super' before 'power'

That maybe one of the reasons, but the two main reason for the fall of the Mughal empire were the Maratha and Sikh insurgencies.

Marathas and Sikhs were beaten like pulp by Mughals. If you are refferring to solitary incidents in the long beating then it is different issue.
Mughals did not learn from the time and lost the battle when they faced the challange from a technically superior opponent. They failed to apply the lessons of thier fore-fathers who used superior technology, of thier time, to beat the opponents (Remember Babar his Toaps and Rana Sanga  ). Result was obivous.

Were they? By the time the last major emperor Auranzeb died the Marathas were no longer fighting guerilla battles against the Mughal forces. The Mughals were outnumbered and didn't dare take the Marathas on in open combat. The Mughals lost the Deccan to the Marathas.

Global dominance by India which really is what a superpower status is,wont happen atleast during my lifetime.

Global dominance by India alone wont prolly ever happen mate, what will happen is India will be counted among the top 3 countries in the globe. It would take 3-4 decades mate. So i hope ur there ;)

I told you guys we want to be the france of Asia.

Leave us alone, we wont intervene in wars or shits, but we will show middle finger to anyone dictating us.

Superpower is a climax, Law of evolution and Law of Graph theory says the day you become that you start declining.

We just want to be poverty free, will be my biggest gift.

we dont lack fuckin talent every 7 out of 10 indian kids in school can rip non-asian kids apart in intellectualism and IQ.

Trust me the day not a single person will immigrate to US for research will be my day and will be the day We will produce stealth like things in matter of days!

Lets just say, generalizations are not good. Britain became a power because of its constitutionalism after the demise of the absolutist state system and its mighty naval power which allowed it to secure trade routes and monopolize. Mughal Empire fell because there was too much centralization and their flawed mansabdari system.

Exectly, strong navy(military) last i checked india and pakistan have some of the largest militaries in the world. But today it does'nt matter if you have a army or not because these days it's a strong ecnomay and allianence that counts.
You have got to be kidding me! Being optimistic is good but when it treds in to the 'naive' territory, its not of much use! India is NO WHERE NEAR the superpower status even in the imminent three-to-four decades! China is way ahead of it but even the Chinese realize that even then, to challenge US' sole claim to the super or even hyper power status, China needs decades itself. India does not even figure in the equation!

When did i say that they will become a power today, i said that they have alot of problams to overcome but that does'nt mean that they won't become one. Like bull said, if there is a will, there is a way

An eye opening article, wonderfull!

Sonia finally put some sense into high flying jingoistic minds.

I wish someone has it on youtube, I'd like to listen to it.
yes we may say India is not going to become superpower but this is clear that India is emerging as one of the Major Power of that world which will not have any superpower. Power is measured in terms of Economic and Defense powers. and as Defense is also dependent on the economy of a country, we may say only economic powers can be said to be powers. now, if we have a look on the growing economy of India, Indian GDP on PPP will have surpassed one of the major economic power (or superpower) Japan by the end of this year to become the third largest economy of the world after US and China. and the story is not going to end here. this is just a start. second fastest growing economy of the world is preparing to travel a long journey. like, in 2005, GDP on PPP of US was $13,000bn and China $8,500bn, and that of Japan $4,000bn and India $3,800bn. but GDP of India on PPP is likely to be around $20,000bn on PPP by 2020, and that of China will be around $40,000bn while that of US will also be around $35,000bn. and fourth largest will be Japan with less than even $10,000bn on PPP. yes combined GDP of Europe will also be around $40,000bn after 2020. here advanced technology of US, EU and Japan will give them an edge over country like china but close relationship of India with western countries will always give her an advantage over china.

in short I may say, the world after 2020 will be dominated by just four powers. 1st US, 2nd Europe, 3rd China and 4th India. there will not be any 5th place, not even for a country like Russia, even combined ASEAN will not be close to these four powers. this is what very clear from now. and the time run very fast, if we have a look on the past, when India entered in top ten economies on PPP, about a decade before, just in 1994-1995. when india became fourth largest economy on PPP surpassing the largest economy of Europe, Germany, it was in 2000. and when a difference will be made between economies above $20,000bn and below $10,000bn, after 2020, it will not take much time. time runs very fast

Sir, there is nothing like countries can be either superpowers or no power. if we define power in terms of economic and defense, please compare India with countries like Bangladesh and Nepal. how much is the difference? now compare India with countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia,..... economic and defense size of India is still very big as compare to them. now compare India with country like South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, France, Italy etc….. these countries have advantage of bit advance technology but there is still some difference between economic size of India and these countries. while growth rate of India is also far more than these countries.

here one thing I would like to clear, when we compare economic or defense Power of countries,we mainly look for their capacity of spending money in their economy and defense. for example, this is true that per capita income of Singapore is far more than that of China but even whole ASEAN doesn’t stand in front of china when we compare their power. the reason, only economic size of a country can show her strength becasue only economic size of a country like China can say how much China is capable to spend on her defence as compare to Singapore. while Singapore also has far more superior technology than that of China. one more example here, when we compare per capita income of countries, india, which has the highest number of poor, also has 36 billionaires with richest man, Mukesh Ambani, with $18bn while whole ASEAN including rich Singapore has just 18 billionaires with the richest man, Anand Krishanan of Malaysia with just around $5bn. one more thing I would like to say here, companies of a country also represent her power. whether it was East India company of Great Britain, or it is Microsoft of United States, companies do represents their powers. and these billionaires represents companies in their countries. they don’t have money in their pocket, they have shares in those big companies whose shares they have.

You got one part right, india has the poorest number of people. As for the richest guy, it's bill gates with about $50billion. But there was a indian billionaire in either top 5 or top 10 richest mans list

it is commonly said by malaysian indian, "India is motherland but malaysia is homeland." only people like Laksmi Mittal is living in Britain for a long but he hasn't lost his Indian citizenship. otherwise i just saw a news that 2 american Indians have got name in billionaires list who were originally from india but now they are American citizen so they are listed with Americans.

.
yeah, but the'r still Indians mate, dont you agree?

they change their citizenship so that they can live easier and have more rights where they currently want to stay. But their Indians at heart.
Sooo many of Indians are abroad doing things, that is why now India has such an effective lobby in the US, cuz there is a sizeable amount of Indan votebank there, that the senators there have to please. Having many Indians worldwide is a very strong defacto lobby. One that is in UK, US, and very recently and incrasing rapidly in Australia. There is even an Indian senator in the US, Jindal.

These are some things that one gets, like huge added bonus's of a large population that is financially secure. A good economy, due to which more and more Indians can go abroad. There are downsides too...brain drain.

It is good to have citizenship of the country where you live, so that you have a voice there.Laxmi Mittal is an extra ordinary man to still keep his Indian passport. I did not know this fact.

Yups she does, we face immense challenges, but still we are good going.
We dont want to be the superpower or anything, we want to be the France of Asia.

Good to see that you are learning by having discussions with smart people ;)
How about the reamining populace of your country? Dose every one think like you?
Can you describe please, what is your envision of France when you choose it to be your role model?

i think we had discussed similar issues before and i have mentioned that before also that india needs 1000 years to be on the social level same as of even eastern European countries France is bit too far fetch idea.

I see congress govt. being hijacked by corporations and extra rich bussiness and political families.
This is a situation is infect leading reverse to your dream of a homeginised society on western nations pattren.

In my view this over night revolution of indian economy is a direct result of world polarization.
In clash of civilisations, west have no dobts in your an anti-islamic sentiments. You have all the privilage.

We have just started to grow faster, we are a regional power, but far from becoming a super power.

But its the desire that drives a country. If those articles encourage our youth and children, be it so. Because former President Abdul kalam said - Dream - and turn your dreams into Thought - and your thoughts into Action.
