Ok, for those of you who haven't heard, recently military insiders revealed the following information:

- The Shenyang J-21 will be for Navy and the Air Force will not induct it
- The Shenyang Corporation has another fifth generation fighter being built with WS-15 engines. It will most likely compete with or complement the J-20 for the Air Force contract.
- The Chengdu J-20 is the top priority project right now
- The Chengdu Corporation has a single engine variant of the J-20, called the Chengdu J-2X, being built. It will compete with the Shenyang J-21 for the Navy contract.
- The planes available for export are the Chengdu J-2X and Shenyang J-21
- Pakistan is expressing interest in the Chengdu J-2X

We are also hearing that there is a Chengdu J-10C being built

. .
Single engined fighters are not ideal for carrier operations in my view, it lacks the payload and thrust required in a carrier borne fighter for that added punch.

single engine vs dual engine is not one engine different. they are completely different design, different fighters.
more or less the difference is a bike and a 4-weel car.

.
its just rumours or Pak seriously considering J-2x?

. . .
Fc-20 combination of J10B and J10C ?

.
A-4 and A-7 served US well for many years.

Still they upgraded it to twin engined F-18s. Isn't lesser payloads means more aircraft or sorties required for the mission, which could have accomplished by lesser twin engined aircraft with greater payload?

Also the Harrier, the Super Entendard, etc. Next comes the F-35.

Harrier is mainly a ground attack aircraft with limited multirole capability, Super Entendard is being replaced by twin engine Rafales. And F-35s single engine generates insane amount of thrust which makes up for it.

So the J-20 is a priority but there will be a competition?
Sounds good.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. The Chengdu J-20 is currently the most important project in the military right now. However, they still want a low end fighter for their fifth generation fighter as well as one to carry out strike roles.

From your earlier post it seemed like the J-20 has a competitor before it becomes mainstay ? I got it wrong then ?

The Chengdu J-20 needs a complement, if that's what you're wondering.
