A-10 WAS a slow sub sonic plane;
Designed primarily for close ground support but in a past era.

One of the things A-10 could do was to take a beating; This plane had a stable flight design and even after being hit was able to keep flying to what ever limited extent.

What it could NOT do was to ensure support to the troops; It's demise was marked with the advent of small; man potable anti aircraft weapons.

It's primary weapons was it's nose mounted gun; which was also it's weakness as it exposed the air craft to Anti aircraft weapons.

Because of it's ground support role, one can imagine A-10 had a serious threat from those.

It's a rich air force's weapon; most air forces these days are looking for a multi role capabilities.

Good plane but a siting duck for any mordern force with a good man-pad system.
(P.s. till used against week forcer only)

I will love to fly one over an area with out any sort of air defenses ,although won't mind the shilka or Tunguska.;)

Load them with AGM-65,ALQ-131 jammer pod,LAU-61,MK-84,MK20 or rockeye cluster bombs and couple of sidewinders(for those birds getting annoyed with me flying the thunderbolt.:D)

you won't see any tank bullying on the ground.;)

Hope people wont mind if i return with some scratches....do they?:undecided:

"They" (whoever they are) have been predicting the demise of the A-10, AC-130, and helicopter gunships for decades. It hasn't happened yet. They will see continued use for many years.

If an A-10 is so vulnerable to a modern army, then why is every modern army loaded with helicopter gunships... even slower, and more vulnerable than aircraft like the A-10 and Su-25? The simple truth is that they are NOT that vulnerable. It's a dangerous job, but survivable.
