JEDDAH — The Pakistani Consul General Aftab A. Khokher said relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is time tested and deep-rooted and the relations between the navies of both the countries are based on lasting bonds. He was speaking as the chief guest at a reception held Monday evening on board the Pakistan naval ship “PNS Shahjahan” which is on a goodwill visit to Saudi Arabia.

The deputy commander of the Western fleet of the Pakistan Navy, Commodore Fahad Al Sabyani of the Saudi Royal Navy, consul generals of various countries, diplomats, dignitaries, the media, officers of the Saudi Navy and a large number of community members were also present on the occasion.

Khokher welcomed the officers and JCOs of Pakistan Navy to Saudi Arabia and said that relations between two brotherly countries, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, are excellent at all levels.

He said “our brotherhood has transcended the vicissitude of time. The relations are not based on political expediency but rather etched deep in the heart of every Pakistani and Saudi national. We care about each other more in practice than in words.”

He added that Pak-Saudi relations are of strategic nature and such goodwill visits by naval ships further strengthen these bonds. He also highlighted the strategic importance of relations between Pakistan and Royal Saudi navies, saying that such visits are a source of strength between the armed forces of both countries.The commander of the ship, Capt. Irfan Taj, welcomed the guests on board and informed them about the goodwill mission and briefly highlighted the state-of-the-art combat management system, torpedoes and oceanographic technologies available on the PNS Shahjahan.

He said that “PNS ShahJahan has played a dynamic role to safeguard our maritime interests.” He added that the Pakistan Navy, in addition to cooperative maritime security, is also undertaking independent operations to protect its fleet plying in the Indian Ocean. PNS Shahjahan is the third ship to bear the name. A Type-21 ship, it was commissioned in Pakistan on Sept. 23, 1994. Khokher, Commodore Fahad Al Sabyani of Saudi Royal Navy and Commander of the ship Capt. Irfan Taj jointly cut the cake to symbolize the long lasting friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
