Let Karachi live again

If Karachites are blaming Imran Khan because he failed to deliver in Karachi despite knowing very well he doesn't have provincial govt in Sindh, then Karachites are politically even dumber than rural Sindhis who are generational slaves of PPP:enjoy:
Yes - Sindh government doesn’t set federal finances nor is the face for commodities price increases. IK fanboys are unable to grasp the mentality of each of their voting areas which is why they will remain a one time event.

After 18th amendment, health, food, education is provincial responsibility. Putting a check on inflation is thus also responsibility of Sindh govt not federal govt. If PTI govt run provinces are so bad then why surveys show that people are most happy with them and least happy with PPP managed province?

We have political parties in India which used to tell rural voters that they will earn money from cities and spend that in villages. Essentially Cities were supposed to fund dysfunctional village administration. This resulted in these parties getting lengthy tenures. Thankfully this mentality has started to change with more and more people from rural areas migrating to cities. This however has resulted in unplanned and chaotic growth in cities.

I think Zardari is using same tactic . Telling rural people that He will make Karachi pay for their well-being. This is a very good political strategy as there is certain level of schadenfreude in rural folks wrt "urban elite". Add racial/ethnic bias to this mix and you are unbeatable. Smart politics.

It's that damn 18th amendment loophole. IK need to make a play on this and abolish it asap.
OR
increase federation revenues to an extent that 18th amendment is not an issue
Or force the provincial govt to implenet the 18th amendement fully(i.e local govt need to be established per 18th amendement)
Send the tanks and occupy Karachi.
20% karachi votes for PPPP
50% vote based upon ethnic loyalities for ANP(stolen by PTI now) MQM & PPP

I enjoyed the discussion.

Still want to believe that establishment is fair with Karachi.

@SQ8 Your comments/writing are gold. Thank you.

A Karachiite :)

Mega cities like Karachi / Mumbai need their own elected governments. For someone to become chief minister of Maharashtra, his party need not perform well in Mumbai. They can appease the hinterland, come to power and lord over Mumbai. Not sure how it is in the case of Karachi/Sind

The government refuses to take up Supreme Court's offer that enough evidence exists that the city should be depopulated. 14 million residents plus 10 million who call Karachi their home must realise the realities of an overpopulated city standing on 20th century infrastructure.

Governments policy shift towards geoeconomics must not be misconstrued as bowing down to elite business class of the society. Even though that too is a mandated policy of the estranged government.

Zardari never said nor made an election promise of bringing more economic migrants to the city, it was the cricketer turned politician who raised this unpopular popular slogan.

Unfortunately only people from Karachi regardless of ethnicity understand the situation on the ground - no outsider nor political party fanboy can fathom the fatigue of the people of Karachi.

Ideally they do but as you mentioned the problem with desi power structures is that they can use rural electorate to milk the golden goose. Mumbai has made massive strides thanks to its local businesses but is still beholden to the state instead of being organic.

Savior Imran? When did that happen? Karachites keep voting for parties that have no chance of forming provincial govt starting from 1970. If they had voted PPP, there was still a chance that non stop ruling party PPP would have cared a bit about its voters in Karachi. So they have nothing but themselves to blame for their miserable situation.
So it means PPP must be performing miracles in interior/rural Sindh like the starving AIDs stricken Thar residents...
