Mumbai: Two Indian techies have created and launched the world’s first interactive haptic footwear under their wearable technology brand ‘LECHAL’. Techie duo Krispian Lawrence and Anirudh Sharm, founders of Ducere Technologies, aim to offer products that are intuitive and unobtrusive, facilitating every user to evolve to higher lifestyles, reaping the benefits of making technology work for them.

Anirudh Sharma, Co-Founder and CTO, who is currently on a sabbatical and is completing his degree at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), says “Most wearable technology solutions are obtrusive, which can be distracting and attracts unnecessary attention. LECHAL Footwear are uniquely intuitive and non-obtrusive thus offering easy mobility and convenience to the user.”

Lechal components include a footwear paired with an app loaded on a smartphone via Bluetooth. The user interacts with the app and can set a destination. The phone’s GPS is used to calculate location data and the directions are conveyed to the user via haptics (simple vibrations) in the footwear. The footwear that vibrates is the way to go. As a helth benefit, LECHAL counts your steps, and tracks your calories burnt. Through the App the user can set goals, create custom workout sessions and much more. It also allows you to tag locations, set destinations, start/stop/pause navigation and much more, all by executing simple foot gestures.

The product was initially designed to help visually impaired with mobility through unobtrusive means. As per Krispian Lawrence, Co-founder & CEO, Ducere Technologies, the commercial sales will help to subsidize the cost of the footwear for the visually impaired. Higher sales of the stylish LECHAL shoes would substantially reduce the cost of footwear meant for the visually impaired, which will have additional non obtrusive technology aids to assist them in navigating their way on their own. “Every time you buy a pair of Special Edition footwear, one pair of LECHAL footwear will be subsidized for a visually challenged person, through Institutes like the world renowned L V Prasad Eye Institute, based in Hyderabad,” says Krispian.
