Salam Brothers and Sisters.

I have a question I'm hoping one of you may be able to answer for me.
Is it possible to leave the Army? Do you have set contracts that you have to complete?

I'm considering relationships for marriage to my sister and one isa member of the army. Has been so for two years now. Recently returned from a peace keeping mission in the Congo I believe.

Will he be allowed to leave the Army to come to the UK and live with us?

Thanks.

Why do you want to minus one some one from Pak Army?-

He could resign, yes. But since he has been in the Army for only 2 years, he wouldn't be getting the post-retirement benefits I believe.

it's unfortunate for the army that it has such upstanding people of character. He is the best fit as a husband for my sister. She has also met him and is in agreement. so there is no choice really!

That is fine, we are not worried about benefits. only reprimands.

as long as he isn't put in prison for abandonment or something...

thanks.

It depends on what position he is serving at. If he's a regular officer been throught the Long Course and thus at the rank of Lieutenant or 2nd Lt. then leaving is possible but will be quite hard. There will be a long bureaucratic process through which he would have to go through for being granted the resignation. If he's in the direct commission like an engineer or doctor then he might have signed a bond (upto 7 years) and by law he cannot leave unless the army releases him, which is quite improbable.

Sir, if he goes through the proper channels he won't face persecution but this process will be psychologically very tough for him.

He will also wait until he get NOC.

Why not the one who wants to marry him comes to Pakistan and let him serve his country and Pakistan Army, what will he do there work in 1 pound fish store or walmart like store initially before becoming a taxi driver, bus driver, loader, delivery man and a long list.

THe process can be quite long, about 6-8 months, with the LPR and all.

You guys remeber that capt Abdullah from Alpha Bravo Charlie, he left the Army for the same reason.....wanted to live in UK with his British Pakistani wife. Considering how muslims are treated in west, wont be a wise move to leave your life and a well established profession here.

.
As per the rules, he cant resign before his 'contract' is over, but then if there is a compassionate issue, one may apply for release. For this to happen he would require a VERY guud reason - getting married and settling aboard not being one of them.

Alternatively, a huge pawa may work, but then in my opinion and experience, pawa can only expedite your case, not favor it.

How are they treated? Right now Im treated just fine..probably more than just fine. Those Muslims that face discrimination go looking for it...if you are going to go into an area with skinheads or thugs.. you will face racist remarks and discrimination. Its like going into an area in FATA without escort and expecting you wont be kidnapped or otherwise.

As far as his profession is concerned .. its a case of "the grass is always greener on the other side".

@Oscar

exactly, my thoughts!
how many times di us desis hear "why go abroad and live like 2nd class citizens"? Hello, 99% of us are 2nd class citizens in our own country!! Rich kids and film stars can drive over us with no fear if the law. On how many levels, we are treated better abroad than at home!

He can leave but a lot of red tape will be involved. plus, he will have to "pay" a large amount of money and will also not be entitled to post-retirement benefits.

I remember a story when i was in Glasgow, A friend of mine who was married to a British Pakistani called his elder brother who was SI in police from lahore to come and marry his wife's elder sister... The police guy left his police job and came to Glasgow to get married...Now he is working as a cleaner, 20 hours a week at a local warehouse...That guy is now crying his eyes out...
Isn't Its sad....
