LD-2000 CIWS shows excellent performance in United Arab Emirates
August.17 (China Defense Mashup Reporting by Johnathan Weng) LD-2000 (Land Shield 2000) Close-in Weapon System, Which is developed from Type 730 shipboard seven-barrelled 30mm CIWS and firstly was once displayed in 2005 IDEX, will enter the defense market of middile east and has showed excellent performance in the rough testing organized by United Arab Emirates Defense Department.
Some Chinese news resources tell that one LD-2000 system was transferred to United Arab Emirates by AN-124 lifter in June 2009.
LD-2000 CIWS is called as somehow Battlefield Terminal Hybrid Defense Weapon System. In 2005 IDEX,CNGC (China Northern Industries Group Corporation) revealed this system, but the actual manufacturer is XKI (Xian Kunlun Industrial (Group) LTD ), one branch company of CNGC.
According to Chinese resources, the military authority of United Arab Emirates was very satisfactory to the performance of LD-2000 system when it was operated in Chinese military testing center. But the challenge of the high temperature and high humidity condition in United Arab Emirates, was still waiting for later evaluation in potential buyers battlefield condition.
XKI has eyed the project as one great breakthrough in middile east weapon market and sent one vice-president lead the Chinese testing team to United Arab Emirates.
The testing in United Arab Emirates lasts 22 days and the system has been working normally for uninterruptible long time running under high temperature and high humidity condition. Will LD-2000 successfully intrude middile east market? Lets wait and see what happens later.
