LCA -Tejas seen above test firing Russian R-73 WVR Missile

Reports are just coming in that India’s LCA Tejas which is racing against time to clear its final operating clearance (FOC) by mid-2016 has successfully passed its first hurdle and test fired Derby beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile in Ballistic Non-Guided mode.

Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) currently is preparing series of guided and unguided testing of Derby beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile against Electronic and flying target in next few days which will last until March and as per well-informed sources four more missiles testing has been scheduled.

Israeli-developed Derby is a medium-range missile which will be used as a stop-gap measure before India’s own Astra BVR missile goes into production and becomes mainstay weapons system for India’s LCA Tejas.

Fresh Batch of Rafael Advanced Defence Systems developed Derby beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile were shipped to India earlier this year and India has procured nearly Dozen Derby’s BVRAAM for testing purpose since Derby BVR is only equipped with Six operational Sea Harrier VTOL jets with Indian Navy, which have a limited inventory of the said missile

with this achievement, another hurdle towards FOC (which now seems to be nearby) has been crossed by tejas... Here are some FOC Updates...

1. Although Astra is for LCA and Derby for NLCA, with this successful firing of Derby BVRAAM, tejas is now BVR-capable... (Status: Done)... However, some more tests with Derby to follow to revalidate the BVR-capability...

2. Although tejas has already fired R73E more than a dozen times (and, hence, already WVR-capable)(Status: Done), Tejas will soon also fire Python5 as additional WVR-missile for its armametoriums...

3. Tejas has already fired multiple bomb-types of different categories... (Status: Done)...

4. Cobham's IFR-probe & Quartz-radome already integrated (Status: Done)... Ground-based tests are currently underway -- air-borne tests to follow soon...

5. Current AoA of tejas is 22 degrees (tejas has touched 24 degrees of AoA multiply during flight-tests -- even 26 degrees have been reported!)... FOC-goal 24 degrees (Status : Done)...

6. Tejas has already reached FOC-goal of -- 3.5 to + 8G pulls (Status: Done)...

7. Ground-based gun-firing already completed (we've all seen the video of that gun-firing -- it's available in YouTube)... However, air-borne gun-firing remains pending (Status: yet to be completed)... Howeve, gun-firing capability is now a mk1A requirement..

Don't bully him really.
He knows Tejas is progressing and every passing day is a heartburn to him, let him recover a bit of that ego he has been losing ever since he got here.

haha yes definitely why you should be concerned after all now you won't be able to say na (cummon tejas has not even got FOC yet still in testing) while forgetting that pak actuly inducted an incomplete aircraft at just IOC standards.:tsk::blah:

lol @ 50km range... thats what? half of its FCR range?

looks like you need to know a lot about missiles :disagree: well study about derby before comparing it just with range bro its one of best missile in its class with excellent kill ratio, anti jamming etc etc etc ........................................

There's nothing official about its full range ( absolutely nothing). Expect one presentation where its range was reported 63 km at 8 km altitude ( which implies 90-100 km range at 15 km)....but again nothing official about its max range.

How Many BVR Kills Occurred in 100KM Ratio In Modern Aerial Combat
So far almost all BVR kills have been reported at less than 40 km range.
