Tracking the Tejas: LSP-7 will fly in August: ADA chief :toast_sign:

The 7th Limited Series Production (LSP-7) platform of India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas will now take to the skies in August 2011. Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) head Mr P.S. Subramanyam confirmed to Tarmak007 in Bangalore on June 14 that the programme is well on track, despite the delays.
“Productionisation is a gradual process. The LSP-7 and LSP-8 aircraft will be very close to the final version, not just in terms of the design, but also in terms of how they are manufactured. As things stand now, the LSP-7 will fly in August and the LSP-8 in November,” :tup:the ADA chief said. Tejas LSP-5 first flew on November 19 2010. (LSP-6 will be an experimental vehicle specifically for high Angle of Attack. LSP-7 will be the 12th aircraft joining the Tejas flight-line, spanning over 10 years.)
ADA-HAL had earlier said that the Indian Air Force (IAF) would have the LSP-7 and LSP-8 for user evaluation trials by March 2011. In the meantime, the IAF has already begun the process of squadron formation.
Justifying the reasons for the slight delay for the last two LSPs to join the flight-line, Mr Subramanyam said: “The first phase was to show that the product was good and we have demonstrated this. Everything is performing well. Now, the focus is on creating world-class facilities for productionisation, induction, and product support. So far, we have been on a ‘suit-on-assembly mode’, fit for prototypes as the designers would often alter sub-components to maximize the performance of the aircraft. Now that the design parameters have been proven, the programme is moving on to a type of production mode that will optimize time and cost savings.”
Assuring that the availability and serviceability of Tejas would be ‘world-class,’ the ADA chief said that it is not enough just to create a great product alone. “The facilities for maintenance and operations –- be it the ground-handling equipment, the tools, the testers, the documentation –- all should be the best in the world. The reason why Embraer [the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer] has a great reputation is because the availability of its fleet is so high — about 80-90%. Similarly, the availability and serviceability of the LCA should be world-class and we are heading in the same direction,” he said.
Mr Subramanyam said that a team of technicians and ground-support personnel would assist the IAF in establishing the Tejas Squadron at the Sulur Air Base (near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu). “For proper product support, personnel have to be identified and trained. Labs and maintenance facilities have to be set up. During the transition phase, we will be involved with all of this,” he said.
The Tejas platforms (all combined) have logged over 1,650 flights so far, clocking close to 1,000 hours. “After we cross the 1,000-hour mark, we will have a small celebration,” the ADA boss said, smiling and stroking his trademark well-trimmed beard.

@PANDORA will Tejas LSP-6 fly or not this year?
By the way LSP-7 before LSP-6

LSP6 will fly this year but after LSP7 and let me remind you that LSP6 is basically HAL test Vehicle to explore High AOA (Current AOA is 22degree *good for Interceptor Role and target is 28AOA is 28),so let our finger crossed for High AOA tejas..

High angle of attack!!!
seems wonderful, this will make some people keep quite. Not only it will increase interception role but also a2a role.
Im much waiting for NP-1 rather than this to fly.

Cheerss!!!

So, we have NP-1 and LSP-7 in next 2 months. Lets hope they release NP-1 video. :smitten:

How many tests are they going to do? At this rate, we will be getting Tejas in 2020.

Am so bored with all these tests now why can we start production and upgrade them as new tech comes

They should start the production before the force levels vis-a-vis our adversaries fall any further. Personally believe , with the number of upgrades and sophistication already taken place LSP 8 is more than capable to handle threats from our enemies current inventory. No need for further upgrades , just get the production line working fast.

You cannot compromise on the security, Meeting IAF demands is of highest importance to the defense establishments than vise versa. Time is for the improvement done, proud that they arent wasting it...

But sir , decreasing force levels are related to security too .

I think you,me or all of us dont want another mig in the making, insted of a jaguar(use for LCA) it is intended to be.
Let them take time and produce a superior product other then producing some crap figher.
I hope you agree with me on this.

I believe that the production process of SP 1 has already begun!

This is from a report in feb....

The growing momentum of the Tejas programme --- masked by the hype around India’s US $10 billion procurement of 126 medium fighters from the global market --- is evident at the production line that is nearing completion in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore.

HAL, which has spent the last two decades building 15 Tejas developmental prototypes, is now making the crucial transition to commercial production. Even as it builds the last two developmental aircraft, which will be given to the IAF for user evaluation, the first production fighter is already taking shape in HAL’s older facilities.

Also......

Each developmental Tejas incorporated multiple improvements, which meant that each aircraft was significantly different from its predecessor. Now, having obtained operational clearance, HAL would build a standardised fighter, using automated assembly line processes that would speed up the process, as well as improve precision and build quality.

IN this report too......

The LSP-7 and LSP-8 aircraft will be very close to the final version, not just in terms of the design, but also in terms of how they are manufactured.

And last but not the least......

“By March 2012, the first four fighters from the Tejas production line will be handed over to the IAF”, promises Ashok Nayak, Chairman and Managing Director of HAL.

RELAX!!!!!!!:fans:

Are we testing some car here mate ?? People like you are the only one who raise their eyebrows if some sort of accident happens with LCA(may god forbid). They taking time because this is our 1st attempt to make aircrafts .They have to test, analyis ever flight in house. Once they gained confidence then they going to start serial production ,just like Su30MKI.
