KARACHI: Sindh Assembly on Friday unanimously passed two laws, including the one to control HIV/AIDS in the province.

Sindh Law Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro tabled Bill No 12 of 2013 - The Sindh HIV and AIDS Control, Treatment and Protection Bill 2013. It was supported by all political parties and was passed unanimously.

Similarly, Bill No 20 of 2013 ( The Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill 2013 ( was also tabled, and adopted by the house, unanimously.

The house paid rich tributes to Dr Rahim Bukhsh Bhatti, who converted the humble Taluka hospital of Gambat into a state-of-the-art medical institute. They said after Dr Adib Rizvi, Dr Rahim Bukhsh Bhatti is another role model in the field of medicine and if a few other dedicated doctors are produced, the affairs of the government hospitals in Sindh could be improved miraculously.

MQM MPA Muhammad Hussain Khan tabled an adjourned motion against the release of contaminated water into Keenjhar Lake. He said this is matter related to lives of innocent people, and the government should take efforts to resolve it.

Information Minister Sharjeel Memon informed the house that a filter plant costing millions of rupees was installed to solve this issue, but sadly, the plant developed defects soon after its inauguration, adding that a probe committee had already been formed to investigate into this issue.

Minister for Zakat and Ushr Dost Muhammad Rahimoon was asked tough questions on the matters related to his ministry; however, he seemed ill prepared to respond. His inadequate response to the questions provided amusement to the house and galleries.

PPP MPA Dr Abdul Sattar Pajper also submitted a privilege motion that DIGP Sukkur Javed Alam Odhi used abusive language against him. The House formed a five-member special committee to look into this matter.

Some members wanted to raise points of order, but the Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza said she would consider allowing the points of orders after completing the agenda business. She later adjourned the session until Monday. agencies

Any details of how this Law is going to control HIV/AIDS? If it will really control it than why not implement it at national level?
