Making it clear that Jammu and Kashmir is and will be its integral part, India hit back at Pakistan's claim of it being a "disputed territory"

NEW DELHI: Making it clear that Jammu and Kashmir is and will be its integral part, India today hit back at Pakistan's claim of it being a "disputed territory" and said the language of a bygone era does not help anyone.

India said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif have adopted a "forward-looking approach".

"It does not pay to speak the language of the past. It does not pay to look into the rear-view mirror. Prime Minister (Modi) and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have adopted a forward- looking approach and it is on that approach that we are focused on. The language of a bygone era does not help anyone," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson told reporters here.

He was replying to Pakistan needling India yesterday ahead of Modi's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir as Prime Minister by harping that Kashmir was a "disputed territory".

Asked about the timing of Pakistan's statement, the spokesperson said "Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. The Prime Minister of India can visit any part of India anytime he desires. This is not for me to comment on what others say. It is for them to explain to you".

Explaining India's position, he said "our position is that Jammu and Kashmir remains and will remain an integral part of India. As regards the language of a bygone era, it does not serve anybody, any purpose to look into the rear view mirror and speak in terms of which are not in consonance with what Prime Minister and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are working towards".

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam had yesterday said "we do not accept the so-called accession of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to India. Kashmir is not an integral part of India. Our position is that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory".

Stop Dreaming and Denial. Kashmir is a festering wound that INDIA will have to take care of. There is NO other way out.

lol....denial... for what...
it has been already told several times, Kashmir is India's integral part.... there is no denial in it.. its u people u want to live in past and don't want to accept the reality of today...

They are killing the locals gradually, and bringing about a demographic change. So one day the people in that land that resist indian occupation will be no more, but would be replaced by the indian population that votes to stay with india. Win-win for india!

Not so easy, kashmiris are tough people and very egoist. Demographic change will not be allowed at any cost.

Ultimately the faith of Kashmir will be decided by force. Question here should be are we prepared too? Pakistan is in deep shit as we speak and the kind of pathetic leadership that we have, a government with a fake mandate, Kashmir will likely remain an integral part of India.

Regardless of what government with whatever mandate is in power in Pakistan, there is no way Kashmir can be dislodged from India. Simply won't happen. Kashmir is now embedded deep into the psyche & is part of the narrative of the Indian state. While there is little interest in taking back Kashmiri territory not under Indian administration, there is no way that India will ever allow for Kashmir (Indian administered) to be seperated from itself.

Depends on what you consider no way? In the end it will come down to capabilities and circumstances of both sides. For now both go in favour of India.

Pakistan should take care of its own affairs first, you guys lack in railways, education, infrastructure, airports, automobile industry and several other things.

in future also... Pakistan unable to administrate what it already got.... stop dreaming about J and K.

Many Pakistanis believe that Kashmir can either be negotiated from India or that India can be persuaded by profit/loss analysis. That does not apply because Kashmir is now an emotional issue in as much that most Indians feel an intrinsic bond to Kashmir as part of the Indian nation. This is regardless of whether people are upset by the violence there. Indians don't see Kashmir as seperate from any other part of India & will resist any attempt to remove it with the same force of feeling as they would do if any other part was at risk. The point here is that a belief exists in the minds of many Pakistanis that India will somehow accept / agree / come to terms with giving up Kashmir. That won't happen.

kashmir destroyed pak. pak should look forward. i am not saying pak be friends with india, but should look after its own people before thinking about kashmir.

Nothing new..... Every now and then some one from Pak will say Kashmir is disputed territory.... India will say It is Integral part of india..... Wait for another few months, same story, same dialogue......
