First 400 Chinese-made taxis arrive in Venezuela: transport chief

CARACAS, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A fleet of 400 made-in-China taxi cars arrived here on Sunday, the first shipment of an agreement to supply this South American country with 20,000 Chery cars, said a senior Venezuelan official.

"In 2015, we will bring 10,000 taxis, and the remaining 10,000 in 2016," said Venezuelan transport minister Haiman El Troudi, adding that "financing will be via state banks."

Each equipped with a security camera and dual-band radio, the Chinese-made taxi cars run on a combination of gas and gasoline.

The financing plan was launched in 2014 by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to help modernize the nation's public transport sector.

The Venezuelan government also imported China-made Yutong buses and is building a motor coach plant with the Chinese help in order to upgrade the country's public transportation.

The bus factory, upon its completion, will be able to produce 3,500 buses a year. It is expected to meet Venezuela's domestic needs first and then export buses to other countries in the Latin American region.

Geely has teased images of its all-new SUV that will rival the Nissan QASHQAI.

Set to go on sale first in China under Geely’s sub-brand, Emgrand, the new SUV is thought to be called the NL-3.

Designed by an international design team headed up by former Volvo and Ford design boss Peter Horbury, the new NL-3 is said to have received design input from Geely’s US, Spanish, Chinese and Swedish design studios.

Under the skin three engines are expected to be offered, the range kicking off with a naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre petrol engine. A larger 2.4-litre will also be offered, but the range-topping engine will be a 1.8-litre turbo.

To compete in European markets a diesel will also eventually be offered and could be sourced from Geely-owned Volvo.

Last month an NL-3 mule was spotted on Australian roads while undergoing work by local firm Premcar -- which specialises in automotive research and development work.

In the past, Geely vehicles have also been seen testing here undergoing transmission calibration by local firm DSI.

Despite the fact Geely taps into our local R&D expertise and currently sells just one model in West Australia, it’s still not certain whether the NL-3 will ever be offered to Aussie buyers.

CARACAS -- Chinese bus maker Yutong's new factory will be inaugurated in western Venezuela in October, said Haiman El Troudi, Venezuelan minister of land transportation Friday.

According to El Troudi, construction of the factory, designed with a capacity to assemble 3,500 buses per year, is progressing smoothly in state of Yaracuy, with 86 percent of building work being done. The new facility will have eight assembling posts, two buildings, a parking lot and a test ramp for the buses.

"The total investment in this plant along with our Yutong partners has been of $675 million and will generate 1, 650 jobs for the citizens of this area," said the official, who disclosed that 40 people have been recruited and will be sent to China to receive professional training from Yutong soon.

Upon completion, the new factory will assemble three types of buses not only for Venezuela's needs but also for Yutong's clients in Latin America and the Caribbean.

President Nicolas Maduro in July approved the plan for creation of a joint venture between his government and Yutong to set up its most "modern" plant in Latin America.

So far, about 5,000 Yutong buses have been exported to Venezuela for services in 80 urban routes in the last 36 months.

Just take an extra step and be original with the designs, this isnt something these Chinese companies cant do, but they choose to copy.
