What's new

Landmark Presidential Vote begins in Turkey

Not 40 but %47. You can't call %47 minority %53 majority.... if you go that way, you will create promblems in the society.... just like what happened in "Gezi Protests".

Other than that.... who knows this election have been fair or not.... Erdogan is a thief and a liar... i would be surprised if he had rigged the elections.
i dont see why you call %47 minority and merge ihsanoglu and demirtas together as if they moved together ? there is one 53 more than half of country , %38 and %9 are the rest. Some groups in turkey turned this election to be " who wants erdogan, who doesnt" , dont get me wrong, i dont mean you are such ,but by merge in %47 it looks like %47 doesnt want erdogan .:D

i think we should vote twice in 1st which one we want in 2nd which one we dont want :D and make a percentage in the end line ( want -(minus) not want ):bunny:

Good luck to Turkey with a rather pivotal transition to a Presidential model.
As you noticed it already, erdogan had 1st steps of presidental system by changing president to be choosen by public instead of council :) i guess next elections will be done under presidental system.
Erdogan just proved whatever happens , he will get over 50 pct.
Last events only changed into favor of him, his base supporters was unstable and somehow undecided between political sights ,could shift easily from one to another, by what happened last 6 months, his base supporters get stronger and stable , as if AKP is around for 50 years.
AKP was reversed triangle, now its a normal triangle ( in means of stability)

When will opposition leaders wake up? How many times did Bahceli and Kilicdaroglu lose in the last 10 years or so? Even with Gulen's backing they , mhp and chp, still lose with Ihsanoglu. Time for a change.

President's only considerable power is the right to veto laws.
So why did Erdogan go for presidency? He couldn't serve as PM for another term?

Is there any chance that some opposition leader becomes the PM? If I remember well, Erdogan's party also won the majority of votes in Parliament, right?

He couldn't apply for another.

The opposition are a bunch of incompetent fellows. Even through the baddest period of akp they still couldn't achieve any kind of victory.

I hope this changes soon though.
A man with this much support ruling for this long can be bad for Turkey on the long term.

and yes his party had the majority in the last elections.

Well yeah, if he can pull of a overwhelming majority in a referandum he can, but today's elections showed that he has not enough support to pull off something like that.

That doesn't matters. He will put a pawn in the PM's seat. And still pull the strings behind.
