LAHORE: Ten terrorists involved in a suicide blast on Lahore's Mall Road, were killed in an encounter with Counter Terrorism Department personnel in Manawan, sources told Geo News late Friday.

At least 14 people, including senior police officers, were martyred on February 13 when a suicide bomber hit close to the Punjab Assembly in Lahore where hundreds of chemists had gathered to protest a new drug regulation.

The powerful explosion also left over 50 people injured. The martyrs included DIG Traffic Capt (R) Mobin and SSP Zahid Mehmood Gondal.

Days after the attack, CTD personnel had apprehended an alleged facilitator identified as Anwarul Haq. On Haq's pointation, the law enforcers also apprehended some other suspects.

Sources within the CTD said that Anwarul Haq was being taken to Manawan - a suburban area of Lahore - for recovery of explosives when nine of his accomplices ambushed the CTD team. In the ensuing exchange of fire, 10 terrorists were killed including the facilitators of the attack.

According to sources, the deceased terrorists were affiliated with outlawed Jamaatul Ahrar.

Officials also recovered arms and explosives from the scene that had belonged to the deceased terrorists.

The alleged encounter comes days after another attack on a van carrying census staffers in Lahore, which resulted in the martyrdom of six people and injuries to 15 others.

A spokesperson for the Punjab government confirmed that four military personnel were martyred in the bombing.

The spokesperson admitted that the province had been receiving reports of a possible terror attack. "We were informed of a high-level security threat on March 29 but the target was unclear."

However, the Islamabad-based Pakistan Bureau of Statistics promised to continue the data collection process as per schedule.

Gentleman, have you ever wondered why the Pakistani military finds people who have committed a terror act after they have committed it, but never before? They seem to kill 100 plus but only after the fact

It is not the military first of all.. there is huge corruption in our police system.. and because of that military interfere and many terrorist got captured before their act...

There are numerous terrorists nabbed/killed before they were to commit a crime. There are more IBOs happening than there are number of minutes in a day. But then again the world will only get attracted and comment or question when the terrorists is nabbed after they have committed a heinous crime as it feeds the ailing minds of humanity who get starved for breaking news if it does not come to them every second day. So its just that people only notice something when it comes after a bloodbath and conveniently ignore the selfless and tireless efforts of our defenders who are doing a service through the length and breadth of the country every single day

If you were to imagine how many are apprehended before they have committed a crime VS caught after the crime, just a run a comparison of Syria Vs Pakistan situation and you should get a good answer!

It could be encounter or custodial killing. Unfortunately I can't say the latter is wrong considering how targetted killings have reduced the terrorist ranks and strengthened us. This could be the only solution to the militancy problem because militants often escape justice of the law with the courts setting them free.

That used to be rather true before. But now in 2017 the intelligence apparatus is improved. Approximately 30% up to 40% of the attacks are stopped before they occur.
