Impossible to believe when all other cities such as Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Islamabad, etc had population growth of above 80 percent since 98, how come Karachi that have seen massive population pouring from all provinces due to either Army operations or economic reasons, witness little above 50% growth?

When the displaced waziristanis and swatis came to karachi there was uproar and nationalists and ethnic parties in sindh held strikes claiming a conspiracy is going on to make them minority in thier land.At this time political target killings and gang wars in karachi also reached its peak and as result some people left karachi.Quetta and peshawer border afghanistan and it is possible some afghans have got counted in these cities,we will find out when the full report comes next year.

How is bahria town rural area

Future population growth in Karachi will happen in "rural" areas. Karachi urban growth rate 2.43% vs rural 5.56%. And Bahria town barely have few dozen people yet? Now imagine if all these housing schemes actually start getting populated in near future. By 2027 census rural Karachi will have many more millions while urban Karachi growth rate will be more or less stable depending on number of new high rise apartments.

Lahore urban population as per old definition is 8.9m but now that whole district is urban because of housing schemes etc its 11m.

Its up to Sindh to change definition of rural or urban. In punjab it doesn't matter much, no one even knew Lahore district was converted in to urban area couple of years ago. Shabaz formula to convert some rural area in to urban depend on if it can generate provincial taxes, GST etc.
