Ladakh On Knife's Edge: Updates On the Ground Situation

LAC stand-off: ITBP men now hold key positions near Black Top

As Indian Army troops moved to dominating heights near the south of Pangong Tso, at least 30 personnel of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have occupied new positions near the key Black Top area that oversees China in the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

According to details shared exclusively with TOI, ITBP jawans moved through Phurchuk La Pass — located at a height of 4,994 metres — to reach their new positions which were earlier unoccupied. Until now, ITBP was largely present only north of Pangong at Dhan Singh Post near Finger 2 and Finger 3 area.

“ITBP DGP SS Deswal had spent six days sensitising troops along the LAC last week. It's the first time we are present in the dominating heights in a good number,” said ITBP IG (Operations) M S Rawat, who had accompanied Deswal along with IG (Personnel) Daljit Choudhary and IG(Leh) Deepam on his first visit to the LAC since the border standoff.

In his address to ITBP jawans last week, Deswal had said that extra vehicles would be provided for troop movement between border outposts and thrust would be on road construction by the government to limit travel on ponies. The Indian Army, the ITBP and Special Frontier Force (SFF) jointly hold dominating heights in the hills near Helmet Top, Black Top, Yellow Bump that oversee China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Post 42830 on its south and Digging Area and Chuti Chamla on its west.

“These positions on heights running corresponding to China’s People Liberation Army’s posts have been unoccupied for long. Our soldiers have fortified the Indian border,” said a source.

ITBP now has more than 39 permanent defence positions along the LAC where its men are present. “ITBP is present in good numbers near Chushul and Tara border outposts. Extra companies are airlifted from Chandigarh,” said a senior ITBP official.

On August 14, ITBP had disclosed that it had recommended 21 names from its troops for the gallantry medal since they faced the Chinese Army during the standoff in Galwan in May and June.

India is taking an offensive posture. It can't resist doing another forward policy even though everybody knows how this one will end

india (and america for that matter) know full well China's defining of "self defense". if even one Chinese dies in any attack then its gloves off and scares the gow muttar out of india. explains why there hasn't been a single Chinese casualty in spite of this 4 month confrontation that has cost dozens of indian lives hundreds wounded. yes they have only seen China's nice side thus far...

Seriously, the Indians are masters of BS and huge exaggeration. They have moved their troops to Gurung Hill to face the Chinese and are boasting as if they have taken the whole Ladakh .

Chinese are probably laughing their heads off and not fuming at all.

this whole situation is so confusing. one day they say they ve captured Black top and are dominating complete south bank of pangong tso, the other day they are sying they are on heights "near" black top...if they are not actually on black top then what the hell are they dominating ???

Black Top and Helmet hills are under Chinese occupation. The Indians captured some unoccoupied heights near the Southern Pangong at around Reqin Pass on their own side of the LAC.

then at most they are near spangur gap and not pangong tso.

"NDTV has learned that despite the over-all domination of Indian forces in the region, the Chinese Army continue to hold positions on Black-Top and Helmet",

It's a face saving retreat for the Indians. Before their boasting, they were angry about PLA in finger 4. After their boasting, now they don't care -- they have control over the whole Ladakh :sarcastic:

India holds useless vantage points the Chinese would likely bypass anyways should a further build up be necessary. Meanwhile, China holds two extremely valuable hilltops that will be able to monitor Indian positions in their entirety. Also, I like how NDTV admitted Black Top and Helmet are on the Chinese side of the LAC ... this means they have come to accept the new LAC after June 15 and the 1000 square kilometers of Indian territory now occupied by the PLA. Black Top and Helmet were on the Indian side of the LAC prior.

Congratulations my Chinese friends on this momentous victory against India.

Indians are slowly letting the truth come out. No doubt Hindu Extremist India is going through a face saving phase.
