What's new

Labrador one of the most intelligent dog breed

street mutts are the best, adopt a stray today !
And bring thousands of diseases home.

I like Bulldogs.
I ve raised a bull terrier pair in my home. They lived for 14 and 15 years respectively.
In my opinion they are better than bulldogs. Because bulldogs just eat, sleep and fight with other dogs. Bull terrier is a multi purpose dog.

Let me look up how the look...I like the overgrown steroided muscular look of Bulldogs

That's great. At least we indians and pakistanis agree on something
Cheers on this !

Bull terriers is the second similarity here

Grew up will labs, German Shepherds, Dachshunds at different times - We always had dogs at home. The last being a pair of Bull terriers- they had the strongest pair of jaws - ever.

Could not get to like the Pomeranian type of dogs though.

no, get them their shots, just like you would an exotic expensive something mastiff.

also, neuter females, take good post op care of them and feed the strays, adopt puppies when you can.

dogs are the best.

Better to get landraces. They are dogs that have evolved naturally for that particular region.
Few landraces left though.

We actually needed bullterriers to guard our house located at a very less populated dangerous area.
Yes no doubt bull terrier has the strongest jaws and they are quite ferocious in nature. My bullterriers bit 3 of my relatives and once they grabbed another dog from neck and heck it took us almost 30 minutes to separate them.
And bullterriers are beautiful dogs. Pure white skin with blue eyes and red eye linings.
Dachshund or a sausage dog is also one of my favorite . They are cute little dogs with big character :)

Yes agree.
One such land race was Dagg .They were our domestic dogs when my father was living in village as a child. They had unbelievable stamina, they were good protectors of other animals at home and their loyalty was AAA. Once according to my father a wild wolf at night came down from khewra salt mine hills and took little sheep baby with him. The dog chased that wolf, fought with him got badly injured but next day at morning far from our dera we found him sitting alongside a baby sheep ,and a baby sheep was ok .He didn't left that area and was still protecting him.
But these days it's difficult to find a pure Dagg breed.

Interesting, never heard of this 'dagg'
Which place is it native of?
'Dag' in turkic languages refers to 'mountain' as seen in 'Dagestan'

We call those in Punjabi "Dagg " .Have no idea what's the Urdu or English name for that breed .
That dog was the native of Punjab region. Because every village of Punjab had those and I listened stories about those dogs from old people like my grandfather who also told me that when he was a kid they had the same breed of dog at home.Which shows that breed had hundreds of years old history in this region.

Ok I have found it it's called "kuchi" its a native dog of afghan and KPK province of pakistan. In old times that was India.
Somehow that dog got domesticated in Punjab region. Strong dog with needle type sharp teeth. Some pics of "Dagg" dog.

Dağ hmmmm
So mountain terrier maybe??
Or mountain something....maybe that's how ancient Afghan/Pashtuns got the name as the region saw a lot of traffic from Turkmens/Persians/Arabs and others. A great deal of turkmen settled in Af-Pak especially North Pakistan.

Yes certainly possible. There are many other 'mountain' dogs around the planet.

Yup, before the steam engine got put together, turkic (or more accurately altaic) people were the pioneers of land travel. From magyars of Hungary to the yamato of japan from the sami and nenets of scandinavia & russia to the rawthers of south India; turks/mongols/altaics went everywhere by land.
In pakistan there are hazaras and plenty other altaic groups.

The pioneers of water travel are the austronesian peoples: from malaysia to madagascar to taiwan to hawaii and to far off islands in south pacific.

Yes there is definitely a strong central Asian connection with that kuchi dog.
That dog is a strong and tough one. Perfectly adaptable to mountains ,rough terrain etc
