Kuwaiti Sheikh beats up the referee after his favorite team loses

. . .
Reminds me of Uday Hussain (deceased), s/o the late Saddam Hussain......used to hang Iraqi athletes upside down and bang under their feet and heels using iron-hot rods as punishment if the Iraqi football team ever lost.

the days of Sheikhs is over - or it ought to be. All these Arab so-called "royals" are a bunch of has-beens. Their time will be up one day. At least I hope so.

I was thinking the same thing!

I don't think that day has arrived yet. The Arab Spring failed. It failed for the reasons I told the Egyptian "pro-democracy" protesters in D.C. in 2007: removing an irritating dictator may be satisfying, but democracy could not be established without wide promotion and acceptance of democratic values that Arab-Muslim culture had not yet embraced. Arabs were willing to fight for freedom from a tyranny but not freedom from all tyranny: they were not willing to spend their lives for liberty, checks-and-balances, and individual human rights.

They are still very rich though and this money allows them to be arrogant: Fund Rankings | Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and UAE are sitting on top of over 2500 billion dollars of cash. Not to mention other assets and of course oil and gas.

Only Saudi Arabia's military budget is about twice that of Pakistan's total budget

A single slap ≠ Beating the crap

my thought exactly....i think the rope part of his head-dress did more beating than his hands did

tribalism is too deep in those countries....except for Egypt and Tunisia. Arab Spring failed b/c they realized they hate the leaders but cant find suitable candidates that could unite people or at least create 70% unity. The Western super-powers also cherry-picked. They hated Gaddafi but love the Bahraini royal family, for example. But anyways I digress.

money doesnt buy you culture or class.... Syria and Egypt are much poorer countries, they have conflict (Syria is bad) but they are rich as far as civilization and culture are concerned. You'll never see el Ahli or Zamalek football team administration or owners etc. beating up referees out of sense of entitlement just b/c a ref call wasnt in their favour

this whole "royal" this and "sheikh" that is the problem....the days of "Sheikhs" and "Ayatollah" should be over soon I hope
