US is trying to instigate a Regime Change in BD because the current leaders are not accepting US pressure against China and India. Yes, Mujib lost popularity. Yet, all other BAL leaders together would not substitute him alone. So, Mujib was to be killed to be replaced by other(s).

A living Mujib would remain supreme wherever you intern him. It was easy for BAL leaders to forfeit a dead Mujib.
