Kuwait has ordered 29 FCI 44 fast interceptors. Source: Tampa Yacht Manufacturing
The Kuwaiti Ministry of the Interior (MoI) has placed an order with Tampa Yacht Manufacturing for 29 Fast Coastal Interceptor (FCI) 44 craft for its coastguard, the Florida-based company announced on 4 March.
The MoI said the FCI 44 was selected "following an extensive evaluation protocol" and that the first boat will be delivered in September this year.
The 14.42 m FCI 44 craft will be powered by MAN R6-800 diesels rated at 1,600 hp, delivering a top speed of more than 55 kt at full load, and a range of over 300 n miles at 38 kt.
The craft will have a crew capacity of up to six personnel and be equipped with NIJ111A ballistic armour, Arneson Surface Drives, crew-served weapon mounts, and a comprehensive electronic suite.
