KSA’s largest industrial city to start in Jan.

JEDDAH – A multi-billion dollar project to develop the largest industrial city of Saudi Arabia will be launched in January 2014 and is expected to attract massive funds from the Kingdom and neighboring Qatar, newspapers reported on Sunday.

The project in Salwa coastal strip on the Gulf near the border with Qatar has been approved by Saudi authorities and is planned to be built on an area of nearly 300 square kilometers.

The area of the industrial city is almost 40 percent the size of Bahrain. “The Salwa and the Airport Road Industrial City will be launched next month,” according to officials.

The first phase of the Salwa project will be completed within 10 months and the officials expect this project to be the largest industrial city in the Kingdom,” according to the Saudi Arabic language daily.

In a recent statement, the Saudi Industrial Cities Authority, which manages about 40 industrial cities, said the Salwa project would have a capacity to accommodate more than 10,000 factories and billion dollar investments; providing over 600,000 jobs.

“The industrial city in Salwa will serve investors from both Saudi Arabia and Qatar,” said Abdullah Al Nashwan, secretary general of the chamber of commerce and industry in the Eastern Saudi province of Ihsa, where the project will be based. “It is planned to be Saudi Arabia’s largest industrial city and Qatari investors have already conveyed their interests to invest in this city as soon as it starts. It is a mega project,” he said. — SG

Is there a reasonable investor who refuse to invest in the industrial city located among the very cheap oil fields? I don't think soooooooooooooooo

We should annex Qatar instead. Should have been done decades ago. Bahrain, Kuwait and UAE as well.

But great news. The industrial city will also be connected with the GCC railway. Do you have more information than this?

oh they are planning to make it the GCC industrial capital, it's huge, and if you noticed the city located close to the railway train that transports materials (like Bauxite & Phosphate) to the city! this will turn the manufacturing industries in Saudi Arabia. We are already there, by the third quarter of 2014 Saudi Arabia will no-longer import stuff like alumina sheets. this city with it's sister Ras Al-Khair will lead the future of the advanced industries in Saudi Arabia

But this is on the border between KSA and Qatar right? Close to Bahrain too. Very good area to build something like this.

This is very good news. Really the idea of building all those industrial cities was a marvelous one we will see the fruits of this decades to come. It can only be good I have to say.
