What's new

KP signs deal to build $4.4bn CPEC city among four projects worth $11bn

40 sq km, not bad at all, I reckon we should plan to move there, as the article describes it modern and state-of-the-art sustainable city.

Suddenly PTI has no problems with CPEC anymore. Actually now KP govt is directly talking to Chinese for the projects since before that everything was being controlled by federal govt. Good that federal, KP govt and Chinese has sorted out the issues moving forward.

PTI never had any problems with CPEC. The problems were related to lack of transparency from the Federal government.

Is this on top of CPEC?

This isn't CPEC project but FWO housing society. Why it's named CPEC? Who knows, maybe to generate hype. After all housing societies success depend on how many people buy plots and build houses.

It's not even KP government project at all if you read OP, they have just given permission to FWO to build housing society. Its like Shahbaz Sharif taking credit of Bahria town or other dozen societies.

PTI after wasting 4 years in dharnas are now announcing all these huge projects as their own.

Indeed.

However, given the fact that CPEC isn't a patented trademark, it is perfectly legal to use the acronym for a private housing project if only to cash in on all the free CPEC marketing. Heck, I'm exploring a few ideas myself:

Bahria isn't patented trademark either though who wants to eat Bahria Corn Flakes in the morning? Not me. :partay:

Standing up against corruption isn't a waste of time, its worth the effort.

Same way most of the power projects as well as motorways aren't being built by Federal/Punjab gov't but by chinese corporations and pakistani investors including FWO.Sahiwal coal power plant that was inaugurated yesterday is also not a federal/punjab gov't investment but a BOT investment just like these KP projects

For reference: http://www.ppib.gov.pk/N_upcoming_ipps.htm

But pml-n is taking credit for all these projects as their own.

CPEC is foreign investment and government is rightly taking credit for it. Before 2013 no one was even ready to invest $1 in Pakistan. Like Peshawar bus, its build on ADB loan but PTI project nonetheless.

While housing society isn't CPEC/Foreign investment neither provincial project. Pakistanis will buy plots there and build houses. There are also plans for DHA, Bahria town etc in Peshawar. Recently Khattak went to China and if he convinced Chinese to invest in some projects then PTI can take credit for it.

I think that these projects are also going to generate some good jobs for the locals. The main thing is a job, if you provide someone a good job he can take care of his family he can buy his own ride.
