Kota Kinabalu Offered As Port Of Call To Chinese Naval Ships - RMN !!

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has offered China the port of Kota Kinabalu as a stopover location to strengthen defence ties between the two countries.

RMN Chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the matter was mentioned during a courtesy call by a top Chinese Navy delegation on him today.

"Prior to this, the port of Kota Kinabalu had also received the visits of the United States and French naval ships.

"The enhanced defence relations between RMN and the Chinese Navy is a move to overcome problems and issues relating to overlapping border claims."

He told reporters after receiving the courtesy call by the Commander of People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Admiral Wu Shengli and 11 senior officials, who are on a three-day visit to Malaysia.

Abdul Aziz said the move was in line with the government's aspiration to adopt the best solution to secure peace and security in South China Sea.

"This is an opportunity for us to learn from their methods of operation and getting to know more of their submarines which will be docking here.



"We could learn more about foreign submarine operation from them," he said.

After the courtesy call, a special guard of honour parade was held at Dataran Wisma Pertahanan in conjunction with the retirement of Abdul Aziz on November 18.



Abdul Aziz took the post of navy chief on April 1, 2008.

Smart move by Malaysia.

No need to take hard stance in the ultimate struggle between China and the US because, especially the US, will not spare time to spend its chips (so called regional allies) if the situation requires so.

Regional countries should avoid two traps:

Abandonment (do not alienate any great power)

Entrapment (do not over-rely any great power)

The KK base, the RMN Scorpene home port, is perfectly located and definitely add convenience to PLAN logistics. In future maybe RMN Scorpene may also join naval drill between the two navies, further promote interoperability.

It's an excellent development after the September joint-naval-exercise in Malacca Strait, thanks for your hospitality Malaysian bros, let's progress together!

China groups plan international schools in Malaysia

BEIJING - Education groups from China are eyeing Malaysia as a potential destination to set up international schools, said Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon.

Chong, who is also MCA Youth chief, said Chinese investors had expressed their intention to build such schools to cater to students from China, who are increasingly interested in pursuing secondary school education overseas.

"Malaysia is appealing because we have a multilingual environment, which is conducive for learning both English and Chinese.

"Students can apply to enter universities in either Malaysia or western countries after completing their secondary education," he said during a meeting with All-Chinese Youth Federation vice-chairman Zhou Changkui here.

Talking to reporters later, Chong said Malaysia had to ride on this trend to attract more Chinese students to come here and develop Malaysia as a regional education hub.

Chong is leading a 24-member delegation, including 17 MCA Youth members and seven entrepreneurs, to Beijing for a three-day visit.

Besides strengthening ties with MCA Youth's counterparts in China, Chong said he was hoping to initiate programmes to boost exchanges between youths from both countries.

The visit is also aimed at discovering opportunities created by China's Belt and Road initiatives for young entrepreneurs in Malaysia.

Chong said one of the areas that could be explored was agriculture so that farmers in Malaysia to learn technology and skills from China to boost production.

"We registered a Malaysian Youth Farmers Cooperative in February to encourage people below 50 to join the agricultural field.

"We have been exporting a container of watermelon to Hong Kong every week since the end of September and we are targeting to penetrate the Chinese market as well, but that would depend on the policies between two governments," he added.

Chong said there were also proposals from China to establish a Confucius Institute in Malaysia, which would be instrumental in introducing the essence of the Chinese culture and language to Malaysians, especially non-Chinese citizens.

Malaysia May Buy Chinese Corvettes
Malaysia is planning to buy two variants of C28A Chinese warships for its navy, a local defense media website quoted industry sources as saying last week.

“The deal for the two warships was supposed to be signed during the Prime Minister’s visit to China last year during 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries – but was cancelled at the last moment due to various issues, one of them was funding concerns. Despite the cancellation, Malaysia remained keen on the plan and it might revive after funding is made available,” malaysiandefence.com website quoted unnamed sources from the defense ministry as saying.

The exact kind of warships that Malaysia is supposed to be buying is still not known. Malaysia may buy variants of C28A corvettes by China Shipbuilding Trading Co (CSTC).

The C28A is about 120 meters with a beam of 14.4 meters with a standard displacement of about 2,880 tons and a full-load displacement of more than 3,000 tons.

The C28A bound to Algeria are designated as corvettes whereas Pakistan’s F-22P vessel with similar displacement is designated as frigates. RMN also has a DCNS designed frigate with similar displacement.

Both CSTC and PNS Zulfiquar (F-22P) are participating in LIMA 2015.

Janes had reported that the C28A was an evolution of Pakistan’s F-22P frigates on the basis that Algerian naval teams visited Pakistan to see that frigate’s operations first-hand. The report also said the C28A also appears to borrow design elements from the Type 054A frigate of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy.
