The South Korean navy said on Saturday that its leader, Om Hyun Sung, had left the country on his official visit to Egypt and Russia to discuss military cooperation. Commander Om is expected to visit the two countries until Aug. 5.

The visit came at the official invitation of Russia and Egypt.

South Korea is expected to discuss with the two countries the activation of military exchanges between the southern naval forces and the Egyptian and Russian naval forces, enhance maritime security cooperation and enhance cooperation in the defense industry.

The subject appears to be linked to the tender by the Egyptian navy to arm the two helicopters, the Mistral Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat..

"Up to 4 ships of class were originally planned, but doctrine has shifted toward 2-3“rapid response fleets”, each built around 1 Dokdo Class ship and a number of destroyers."

as saying that Dokdo’s combat system is drawing regional interest:

“Southeast Asian countries have shown interest in one developed for the… Dokdo…. About two years ago, STC completed the five-year Landing Platform Experimental (LPX) combat system, in cooperation with the ADD, based on expertise gathered from its development of combat systems for the South Korean Navy’s KDX-I/II destroyers, frigates and patrol ships…. STC was the prime contractor for the integration and development of the command support and the command and fire-control system.”

The ship's combat data system manages and controls onboard weapons and allows the ship to command support vessels and aircraft in the strategic mobile operation fleet.
