Police arrested 10 suspects believed to be involved in the recent clashes in Kohat that had led to a curfew being imposed in the area, Express News reported on Tuesday.

In a wave of sectarian violence on November 18, two persons – including a police official – were killed. Three others were also injured in the skirmish when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a procession.

The curfew was put in place following the incident, while security forces patrolled the city. All entry and exit points were closed and cellular services were suspended to avoid further violence.

Today, the security officers arrested 10 suspects and recovered ammunition from their possession. An FIR was also filed against them.

The city is still under curfew, while all educational institutes remained close.

Clash

The shooting happened in Kohat when activists from the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) were demonstrating against Rawalpindi clashes which had left nine people dead.

District police chief Saleem Khan Marwat had said the ASWJ activists retaliated by firing bullets in the air, which sparked tension in the area. Some shops were also set on fire in a market near Shah Faisal gate.

A jirga of local elders was convened in Deputy Commissioner Amjid Ali’s office where the DIG, commissioner, and security officials were present to discuss the situation and measures of damage control after the sectarian violence.
