IAAB released the Iran Sanctions Economic Rights toolkit in partnership with the Law Office of Samira Afzali and the National Lawyers Guild as a part of its I-CAN Make it Right student campaign. The campaign, led by IAAB's Campus Action Network of more than 50 universities, focuses on the rights of Iranian students who face increasingly harsh restrictions as a result of sanctions.
In recent years, the US Government has intensified its sanctions programs against Iran and increased enforcement on financial transactions between the US and Iran. The enforcement of the economic sanctions rests with the US Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC").
This toolkit is intended to help Iranians and Iranian Americans advocate their case when confronting a bank, a lending company or any corporate entity claiming violations of OFAC regulations or the Iran sanctions. While this toolkit does not substitute legal advice, it provides practical suggestions when advocating for economic rights.
