What's new

Know why you may have to shell out more money on rail fares soon

Required cost cutting of waste full expenditure cut subsidy of mp, government officers salary above 50000 RS, induce new technologies

How much you will save from those you are talking about? India are facing a crisis. The best talented guys needed to be economically induced to stay in tough decision making breaucratic posts.

I think, Adhar card should be made available on the lines of US smart cards, where we can know whether we are eligible for subsidy or no. However yes, if I am travelling without subsidy, by paying more, I expect more comforts and good experience.
Even now, if ticketless travel is curbed in the north, Railways can still save 10000 crores easily.

.
sirji tell me do you pay income tax and all those around you if yes god bless you but thing is if you want better services you have to pay better for it or else you can travel in unreserved copmpartments trust me they are still dirt cheap .. try it
i have a solution for you both, @fsayed : u travel by subsidized train @GURU DUTT , u travel by air.
on topic: this is a good thing that the govt is pondering upon. should on the lines of LPG connection.

.
So u means every citizen if he expects better service need to give extra money. my family of just 2 members living in mumbai average monthly expense comes just imagine

Yes this is how the free market system works.

USSR style command economies with massive extraction and subsidies (i.e just overall govt transfering as % of total output) are doomed to always fail in the long run because of simple fiscal principles resulting from govt inefficiency.

Hence the words "reform" and "early" are entirely whats needed with Indian Railways and other massive public interventions (all of which are susceptible to huge long term negative fiscal pressure resulting from the aforemention phenomenon)....rather than "stagnation" and "dithering".

You think fiscally detrimental freeloaders are better prevented/caught by govt or by private enterprise in any endeavour of human activity?

Its a simple question and answer that Statists and leftists will hate to hear! :D

i am all for cutting subsidies, but for people who jus want to go from point A to Point B at the bare minimum price (not because they dont want to, but because they cant afford), subsidies should be provided. these ppl dont care about the softness of the seat or the quality of air conditioning.....as i said they need to go from point A to B at the minimum possible price.
for ppl like you n me who can dole out a few extra bucks should find no problem in contributing. hence , i said subsidies should be concentrated for the ppl who need them. developement is welcome, but it should not come at the price which makes poorer sections prohibitory to travel in trains.

morever, I m no "sir":what:....in fact, you are the "sir".....
PS: i am a guy 100%, but do not deserved such a revered title :cheesy:

thing is new railway minister wants double decker bogeis in all short distance trains for daily commuters to increase efficiency and cutting the maintainence and travelling costs besides giving better services and increasing the number of bogies per train to make them more affordable and the price diffrence between old and new tickets wont be much only rates of AC class will go up but that too very nominally as per inflation

in short its all about increasing commuter base and making railways more profitable lets see what happens

Hence provision of subsidy through adhaar or similar system to effectively target those that actually need subsidy rather than just the entire population.

Subsidy targetting efficiency is possibly one of the single biggest positive things this govt has done and continues to do.

thanks, thats exactly what i would prefer. both sides are happy. no extra burden on the poor guy, but better facilities for whoever can afford. the general coaches can be upgraded slowly in phases as income of "those" commuters increses.... in short when demand increases.
i m, slowly but surely, finding myself being pulled into bjp camp due to guys like suresh prabhu.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked railways to publicise the 'real cost' and 'subsidy' of passenger fares to make travellers aware of the burden it is bearing for their travel, which can then be reduced through rationalisation in line with the 'GiveItUp' campaign for LPG.

The PM's directive at a meeting on road and rail sectors last month indicates a move to eventually ask travellers with paying capacity to bear the full burden of their ticket and keeping cheaper fares only for economically weaker sections.

The transport behemoth has been asked to prepare this mechanism plan within three months i.e by August. At present, railways loses around Rs 30,000 crore annually on passenger segment, which is cross-subsidised by freight earnings.

The PM has also asked road and rail ministries to create a framework to measure user's experience.

The ministry has been asked to set up an independent body to measure road quality and bring the entire NH network under road asset management system so that necessary repair work can be taken up on time.

Majority of the tasks identified by Modi have deadlines up to March 2019.

Considering congestion at check-posts, Modi wants states to computerise and integrate all such points besides using drones for monitoring efficiency.

I want the fraight to be increased soon but the services should improve simultaneously so as speed. .

. .
Train fares are bound to increase once RS passes GST bill.

About time. Anyone running a business establishment of services or manufacturing, knows that operations, technology etc cost money.

The 'votebank' class of voters think that everything comes from the skies and that government means unlimited resources.

If Indian Railways has to reform, prices will rise. And if it means enhancing rail transport and infrastructure, then so be it.
