china invaded in to Vietnam, there was revenge attack on Vietnam for his new master Uncle Sam. From a time china begged US to permit her change his policy position from Soviet to USA.

China went to war Vietnam ( USSR ally ) because of Cambodia( China ally) , it would be difficult for china to fight a war on 2 fronts in case USSR entering into war with Vietnam, hence it make perfect sense to get a nod from US ( was nothing but an insurance policy )

China-Vietnam war was pivotal and marked the beginning of the end of soviet and rise of china.

How u may ask?, most nations go to war with clear objective , it doesn't have to be as black or white as winning a battle or conquer land and country , for china it was to slap and humiliate Vietnam ,poke at USSR , prove to her that you cant protect your ally and to watch-out for new power in the east..

China-Vietnam war was a political victory to china over USSR more than military defeat of USSR

once political weakened, yes , you can say Afghanistan was a humiliation/ military defeat for USSR , however for now , Russia is still powerful militarily than China

Vietnam was just a pawn/ battleground for the super power ( US-USSR-China) due to which million's( some estimate up to 4-5 million) Vietnamese died as a result of this chess game, so there is nothing to be proud off.

You may misunderstand my comment about invasion of Russia (USSR) in Afghanistan. After Russia's withdrawal, the regime in Kabul was going to collapsed, same it was to USA in Vietnam war. to achieve nations objective of USSR to keep her comrades on power was not achieved.
and if we are talking about the war, no one can say he won it without losses or other realities which should be concerned, even though Russia and USA after WW II. The real reason of Vietnam war is that France turned back to Vietnam 1945 to setup back colonial regime in Vietnam, refused proposal of Ho Chi Minh that Vietnam to be Independence State in France Federation.
