KHAWAJA HARIS WITHDRAWS FROM FURTHER COUNSEL IN NAWAZ NAB CASES

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s legal counsel Khawaja Haris on Monday withdrew from representing him in the NAB references filed against his family.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on June 10 had directed the accountability court to announce its verdict on all three corruption references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family within a month.

During the hearing, the chief justice rejected Nawaz’s former counsel Haris’ petition for completing the trial in six weeks, observing that final verdict against the former premier, his sons, daughter, and son-in-law should be announced within a month.

Haris, in a statement announcing his decision, said the Supreme Court had ‘dictated on completing the trial within a month.’

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's legal counsel Khawaja Haris on Monday excused from representing Nawaz Sharif from in the NAB references filed against his family.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on June 10 had directed the accountability court to announce its verdict on all three corruption references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family within a month.

During the hearing, the chief justice rejected Nawaz’s former counsel Haris’ petition for completing the trial in six weeks, observing that final verdict against the former premier, his sons, daughter, and son-in-law should be announced within a month.

Announcing his decision to withdraw his legal services to Nawaz during the hearing of Al-Azizia reference, Haris said the Supreme Court had 'dictated on completing the trial within a month.'

In a written note to the apex court, Haris said that the top court had not accepted his stance on the three references. "As a professional lawyer, I think the arguments for all of the three references [against Nawaz and his family] could be presented together," he observed.

The lawyer further remarked that he was dictated to work beyond court hours. Haris was also directed to appear before the court on the weekends, the written note said.

Nawaz's former legal counsel remarked that he could not continue to work in the present conditions.

Haris' decision has come nine months after he has represented Nawaz in the three references filed against the former premier and his family by the National Accountability Bureau.

The three references are possibly faced with a delay till Nawaz hires the services of another lawyer.

The case against Zardari was weakened by inaction of pmln but that can never be used as a defence here no one in court says i killed him but he also killed people punish him before me or you are biased

More delaying tactics. Now Sharif will take time to select his attorney.

Which arguments Khwaja Haris needs to prepare? Nawaz Sharif replies to questionnaire was not arguments, it was hogwash. So if that is the quality of arguments, the court better not delay the sentencing any further.

The accountability court is seriously becoming a joke. There is no reason why the final sentence be delayed. This prolonging actually helps the criminal. Sharif is not accused anymore. The prosecution has proved its case of ownership in London properties. To which Sharif lawyers had no arguments

Getting locked up before the elections would be bad for PMLN in the elections so they are trying their best to delay it.
I hope the CJP sees through this and forces a verdict soon.
