Korean ( ADD Korea ) wants the plane use F 22 characteristic, it can be seen from the early program before the start of the development phase in 2011 where Indonesia was there since the very beginning.
Before ADD Korea and Indonesian Aerospace show their C 100 and C 200 design in the end of 2012, the program uses complete F 22 design.
The program can be very different with F 22 if Korean government pick C 200 design with the canard, but C 200 design needs European companies that has been quite mature with Fly by ware system using canard. As the tendency is to go with American ( Lockheed Martin ) and General Electric, which is very rational since USA is Korean closest ally, so the design being pick is C 100 design.
Previously Korean Aerospace also proposed KFX-E with American F 16 feature as contender of the program in which during that time only involved ADD Korea and Indonesian Aerospace. The design is rejected after long debate, maybe around 1 1/2 years. There is Korean political power that dont like C 103 design ( twin engine and look like F 22 ) since making double engine STEALTH fighter seems too ambitious for them.
Beside of big support by Korean Air Force, twin engine design is also picked due to the contribution of Indonesian Aerospace and the support from Indonesian Air Force. Picking twin engine design will make bigger chance for the program to have Indonesia as partner until the program is completed.
As during the 2013-2014 period, Indonesia has its own STEALTH fighter development program that will be started if Korean back down from the program that during that period is delayed, and maybe the program could be continued if Korean chooses KFX-E design developed by Korean Aerospace (KAI) which is against Indonesian Air Force requirement. During that time Indonesia President is SBY who is much more ambitious than current President Joko Widodo.
