The minister’s clarification came in the wake of widespread protest from public against the police decision to register case against those who culled stray dogs.

Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the state police would not initiate action against those culling rabid and dangerous stray dogs.

The Home Minister said the stray dog menace has emerged as a law and order issue and the government cannot remain a mute spectator. Hence, nothing illegal in killing dangerous stray dogs which attack people. Police would not register case against those who kill such dogs, said the minister in his facebook page.

The minister’s clarification came in the wake of widespread protest from public against the police decision to register case against those who culled stray dogs.

Earlier this month, acting upon a letter from the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) against illegal killing of stray dogs, Kerala DGP had directed the police to take necessary action against those who are engaged in illegal culling of stray dogs. Subsequently, several persons have been booked under sections 428 and 429 of IPC. The police action had invited widespread protest from public.

A few days ago, prominent industrialist Kochouseph Chittilappally, who leads Stray Dog Free Movement, was booked for marching to a police station in Kochi with four stray dogs. He had threatened to stage a 24-hour fast on Sunday in protest against the police move.

Stray dogs are scarce in Nagaland. And dog meats fetch a good price in towns like Dimapur. Keralites should consider this business of exporting dogs to Nagaland. :D

@jamahir time to move to kerala and start your jihad against stray dogs... :)

you and i can participate in the anti-dog jihads in our respective states too, yes?? :)

but maneka gandhi's insane followers should be put into a stadium with the "man's best friend" dogs that the kerala progressives have caught and the stadium closed... what say, @Parul ?? :)

and great move by the kerala home minister, even if he is not a socialist... and full power to people like the industrialist, kochouseph chittilappally, in their campaign against the dog menace.

I have no anti-dog agenda.. am a pacifist in this matter however I think stray dogs need to be controlled, if possible in a humane manner. unfortunately you have to carry out jihad alone.
I was bitten by dog twice (by two different dogs) in childhood and had to receive anti rabies injections, but I dont hold any grudge, coz in both instance I was asking for it.. I also tried to lit a dog's tail during diwali... I was an as*hole.. :)

You satisfy two of the criteria!

Good, animal rights are fine and good but once a bunch of stray dogs start following you or even come near to children my tolerance ends. Not to mention the various diseases they might be carrying since nobody looks for them.
