She has been suffering from fever for last few days. They found her lying in a pool of blood in her room. She had sustained a deep wound on her head.
A Catholic nun was found murdered in her convent room in Pala, near Kottayam, Thursday. The deceased was identified as Amala, 69, a member of the Carmelite Convent.
Kottayam District Superintendent of Police Satheesh Bino said the nun was murdered. He said a deep wound, sustained after being hit with a heavy object, was found at the back of her head. However, police have not reached any conclusion, and the probe is on.
The nun’s body was found in her cubicle when another inmate went to look for her after she did not turn up for the morning mass. The cubicle was not locked from inside. Amala had been unwell since the past few days but had not missed the daily mass.
Police said nuns at the convent were unable to give a clear explanation about the incident. No one noticed anything unusual on the previous night or heard any suspicious noise. Some of the nuns work at a hospital near the convent and movement at night is usual. Police did not rule out the possibility of robbery as a nun had complained of losing Rs 500 a night before. Police are collecting evidence to get a lead in the case.
The Catholic diocese of Pala did not respond to the incident, citing the police probe.
